1. An arrangement for processing transactions under video surveillance, comprising:

  • a) a stationary workstation having a window;

    b) an electro-optical reader mounted at the workstation, for projecting a laser beam as a plurality of scan lines through the window, and for electro-optically reading an indicium associated with a transaction initiated by a customer and presented at the window by an operator when at least one of the scan lines is swept across at least a part of the indicium; and

    c) a two-dimensional, solid-state, concealed imager mounted in the workstation behind the window, for capturing an image of the operator to determine whether the transaction was presented to the window.
