1. A power supply system, comprising:
- an adapter to receive power from a power source, and output an output voltage (Vout); and
a tip to receive Vout from the adapter, and output Vout to an electronic device, the tip including,a first connector, to receive the output voltage, and to output a programming voltage (Vprog),a circuit to provide a predetermined fraction of Vout,a regulator to compare the predetermined fraction of Vout with a reference voltage so that Vprog and Vout are controlled to respective values,a second connector to provide the desired value of Vout to the electronic device, anda comparator to detect an error in a relationship between Vout and Vprog and to generate an error signal if there is the error in the relationship between Vout and Vprog, wherein Vprog is fed back to the adapter to control a magnitude of Vout.

Abstract
A power supply system includes an adapter to receive power from a power source, and output a regulated output voltage (Vout). A tip receives Vout from the adapter, and output Vout to an electronic device. The tip includes active circuitry to adjust a programming voltage (Vprog). Vprog is fed back to the adapter to control a magnitude of Vout.
