Abstract

An embedded digitization system enables a military platform to receive, transmit and process a variety of types of information for a variety of purposes. An apparatus and method provides a means to ensure information interoperability between the invention and external sources. The invention provides a development environment that enables a developer to automatically and interactively develop the middleware services and functions that contain the aspects for interoperability with external sources. The invention ensures interoperability through reuse of functions and services known to satisfy requirements for interoperability. When functions and services that satisfy requirements for interoperability are not available, the invention provides a means to develop new functions and services that satisfy requirements for interoperability. The new functions and services are then added to those functions and services known to satisfy requirements for interoperability, and are also made available for use in future applications.

Claims

1. An embedded digitization apparatus for integrating digital message communications onto a first platform, the apparatus comprising:

at least two predetermined platform applications, said at least two predetermined platform applications comprising at least a communications application and a mission processing application;

a single source for sending and receiving the digital message communications between the first platform and at least one external platform;

said single source also for exchanging the digital message communications between said at least two predetermined platform applications; and

said single source also comprising a means for information and network management services.

2. The embedded digitization apparatus of claim 1 wherein at least one information and network management component for said means for information and network management services is obtained from at least one external repository containing at least one information and network management component.

3. The embedded digitization apparatus of claim 2 wherein said at least one information and network management component is interoperable with said at lease one external platform.

4. The embedded digitization apparatus of claim 2 wherein said at least one information and network management component is substantially similar to the means for information and network management services that are part of said at least one external platform.

5. A method for exchanging digital information on a first platform, and at least two predetermined platform applications, the at least two predetermined platform applications comprising at least a communications application and a mission processing application, the method comprising:

providing a single source for integrating the digital information for the first platform;

sending the digital information from the single source to the at least one external platform and sending the digital information from the at least one external platform to the single source;

exchanging the digital information from the single source at least between the communication application and the mission processing application; and

providing information and network management services from the single source.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein providing information and network management services further comprises:

managing quality of service during the exchange of the digital information between the at least two platform applications, and between the single source and the at least one external platform;

authenticating the digital information exchanged between the at least two platform applications, and between the single source and the at least one external platform;

authenticating the digital information received by the single source;

adding authenticating attributes to the digital information sent by the single source;

managing an integrity of the digital information exchanged between the at least two platform applications, and between the single source and the at least one external platform;

managing communication protocol settings for the single source to maximize availability of the digital information; and

managing which types of digital information are exchanged between the at least two platform applications, and between the single source and the at least one external platform.
