Abstract

A soft gelatinous food elastomer composition and article useful as fishing bait formed from one or a mixture of two or more of a thermoplastic elastomer block copolymers) and one or more plasticizers and a food or components of food. The plasticizers being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom

Claims

1. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more selected plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

2. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more selected first and second plasticizer(s) with or without a wax;

said plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

3. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff comprising one or more amino acids, proteins, and lipids; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more selected plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

4. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more hydrogenated poly(styrene isoprene/butadiene-styrene) block copolymer(s);

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff;

in combination with

(III) one or more selected plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

with or without a selected amount of one or more polymers or copolymers of poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene), poly(styrene-butadiene)n, poly(styrene-isoprene-styrene)n, poly(styrene-isoprene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene), poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene), poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene)n, poly(ethylene-styrene), polystyrene, polybutylene, poly(ethylene-propylene), poly(ethylene-butylene), polypropylene, or polyethylene;

wherein said selected copolymers is a linear, radial, star-shaped, branched or multiarm copolymer, wherein n is greater than one;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

5. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more linear, radial, star-shaped, branched or multiarm thermoplastic elastomer copolymers selected from poly(styrene ethylene-butylene-styrene/styrene-ethylene-propylene), poly(styrene-ethylene butylene/styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene propylene/styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene butylene/styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene), poly(styrene-isoprene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene)n, and poly(styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene styrene), wherein n is greater than one;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) one or more first plasticizer(s) with or without one or more second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

6. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomer copolymers selected from poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene/styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene), poly(styrene-isoprene-styrene), poly(styrene ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene)n, and poly(styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), wherein n is greater than one;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) one or more first plasticizer(s) with one or more second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

wherein said copolymer(s) is a linear, radial, star-shaped, branched or multiarm copolymer, wherein n is greater than one;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

7. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition for presentation in combination with a hook and line formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more first plasticizer(s) with one or more second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said foodstuff being selected from animal foodstuff, plant foodstuff, mold foodstuff, fungus foodstuff, bacteria foodstuff, fish foodstuff, and algae foodstuff;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

8. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomer copolymers selected from poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene/styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene), poly(styrene-isoprene-styrene), poly(styrene ethylene- propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene)n, and poly(styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), wherein n is greater than one;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) one or more first plasticizer(s) with or without one or more second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

wherein said wherein said copolymer(s) is a linear, radial, star-shaped, branched or multiarm copolymer, wherein n is greater than one;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

9. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition shaped like a fish for presentation in combination with a hook and line formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more first plasticizer(s) with one or more second plasticizer(s), and a minor amount of a wax, said plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

10. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more extractive from foodstuff comprising proteins, amino acids, lipids, blood, serum, hormones, and nitrogenous bases; and

(III) at least about 250 part by weight of one or more first plasticizer(s) with one or more second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

11. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstaff selected from fish, algae, shark, crab, crayfish, sardine, brine shrimp, cuttlefish, squid, caddie, cheese, crayfish, cricket, fish egg, fish larvae, frog, grub, guppy, insect, lizard, lobworm, maggot, mayflies, minnow, nymph, redworm, reptiles, salamanders, shad, shrimp, krill, slug, snake, squid, pork, beef, chicken and worm; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more first and second plasticizer(s), and a minor amount of a wax;

said plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said second plasticizer(s) being in effective amounts in combination with said first plasticizer(s) for said gelatinous compositions to have a greater temperature compression set than a gelatinous composition having the same rigidity formed from said first plasticizer(s) alone;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

12. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomer copolymers selected from poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene/styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene)n, and poly(styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene styrene), wherein n is greater than one;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff selected from animal foodstuff, vegetable foodstuff, and microbiological foodstuff;

with

(III) one or more plasticizer(s) with a selected amount of one or more polyethylene waxes, said plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

13. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more first and second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom; and

in combination with

(IV) a selected amount of a polyethylene wax;

said second plasticizer(s) being in effective amounts in combination with said first plasticizer(s) and said polyethylene wax for said gelatinous compositions to have a greater temperature compression set than a gelatinous composition having the same rigidity formed from said first plasticizer(s) alone;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

14. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or a mixture of two or more thermoplastic elastomer block copolymer(s);

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff selected from fish, shark, crab, crayfish, sardine, brine shrimp, cuttlefish, squid, caddie, cheese, crayfish, cricket, fish egg, fish larvae, frog, grub, guppy, insect, lizard, lobworm, maggot, mayflies, minnow, nymph, redworm, reptiles, salamanders, shad, shrimp, krill, slug, snake, squid, pork, beef, chicken and worm; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more plasticizer(s) with or without a wax, said plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

15. An article comprising a fishing bait of soft gelatinous food elastomer composition formed from

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or more thermoplastic elastomers;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more fish foodstuff extractive comprising fish proteins, fish amino acids, fish lipids, fish blood, fish hormones, and fish nitrogenous bases; and

(III) at least about 250 parts by weight of one or more first plasticizer(s) with one or more second plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.

16. An article comprising a fishing bait for presentation with a hook and line, wherein said fishing bait comprising a gelatinous elastomer composition of

(I) 100 parts by weight of one or a mixture of two or more linear, radial, star-shaped, branched or multiarm thermoplastic elastomer copolymers selected from poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene/styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-butadiene)n, poly(styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), poly(styrene ethylene-butylene-styrene), poly(styrene-ethylene-butylene)n, poly(styrene ethylene-propylene)n, and poly(styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene), wherein n is greater than one;

(II) an effective fishing amount of one or more foodstuff selected from ocean foodstuff, fresh water foodstuff, plant foodstuff, animal foodstuff, bacteria foodstuff, fungus foodstuff, algae foodstuff, cultured foodstuff, and insect foodstuff; and

(III) one or more plasticizer(s) being in sufficient amounts to achieve a gel rigidity of from about 20 gram Bloom to about 1,800 gram Bloom;

in combination with or without a selected amount of one or more internal or external additives comprising metallic flakes, titanium dioxide, mica, silicone fluids, silicon dioxide, salt(s), glass, wax, antioxidant, erucamide, N,N′

-ethylenebisstearamide, N,N′

ethylenebisoleamide, sterryl erucamide, erucyl erucamide, and fibers;

said fishing bait having a selected shape for presentation and use with a hook and a line.
