Creation and display of indices within a process plant
First Claim
1. A method of monitoring an entity within a process plant comprising:
- collecting entity operation data, wherein the entity operation data pertains to an operation of the entity while the entity is in operation;
transmitting the collected entity operation data to an index computation device;
determining performance of the entity from the collected entity operation data and from a computer model of the entity, wherein the performance of the entity is performance of the entity during the operation of the entity;
creating a performance index, wherein the performance index represents the performance of the entity during the operation of the entity as determined from the computer model of the entity as compared to a potential performance of the entity; and
storing the performance index in a database.

Abstract
A process control system uses an asset utilization expert to collect data or information pertaining to the assets of a process plant from various sources or functional areas of the plant including, for example, the process control functional areas, the maintenance functional areas and the business systems functional areas. This data and information is manipulated in a coordinated manner by tools, such as optimization and modeling tools and is redistributed to other areas or tools where it is used to perform overall better or more optimal control, maintenance and business activities. Information or data may be collected by maintenance functions pertaining to the health, variability, performance or utilization of a device, loop, unit, etc. and this information may then be sent to and displayed to a process operator or maintenance person to inform that person of a current or future problem.

35. A method of monitoring a plurality of entities within a process plant, comprising the steps of:
-
collecting entity operation data, wherein the entity operation data pertains to an operation of each of the plurality of entities while each entity is in operation; determining performance of each entity from the collected entity operation data and from a computer model of each entity, wherein the performance of each entity is performance of the entity during the operation of the entity; transmitting the collected entity operation data to an index computation device; creating a performance index for each of the plurality of entities based upon the collected data wherein the performance index represents the performance of the entity during the operation of the entity as determined from the computer model of the entity as compared to a potential performance of the entity; and storing the performance indices for each of the plurality of entities in one or more databases. - View Dependent Claims (36, 37, 38, 39, 40)

41. A system for displaying performance indices for a process plant having a plurality of entities, the system comprising:
-
a processor; a display; a database adapted to store performance indices for each of the plurality of entities, each performance index representing performance of the entity during an operation of the entity as determined from a computer model of the entity as compared to a potential performance of the entity as determined from the computer model of the entity, the performance of the entity determined from entity operation data which pertains to the operation of the entity while the entity is in operation; a first routine adapted to be executed by the processor which stores a representation of each of the plurality of entities in the database; and a second routine adapted to be executed by the processor which displays a set of the representations and which displays the performance indices proximately to each corresponding representation in the set. - View Dependent Claims (42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49)
