1. A shunt system for draining fluid within a patient, comprising:

  • a housing containing a shunt device having a valve mechanism therein for regulating fluid flow into and out of the shunt system, a pump chamber in fluid communication with the valve mechanism, and a reservoir connected to and fluidly communicating with the pump chamber, the reservoir including a top section and a base section extending into a connector, wherein at least a portion of the connector extends out of the housing;

    an inflow catheter having a first end configured for attachment to the connector, a second end configured for fluid uptake, and a channel extending therebetween for carrying fluid within the inflow catheter, the inflow catheter further including a locking mechanism adapted to secure the first end to the connector, the locking mechanism being configured to move between a locked and unlocked position; and

    an outflow catheter having a first end configured for attachment to the valve mechanism, a second end configured for fluid release, and a channel extending therebetween for carrying fluid within the outflow catheter.
