Method and apparatus for controlling pressurized infusion and temperature of infused liquids
First Claim
1. In a system including a housing, a housing exterior surface with a recessed portion including a heating assembly disposed along the recessed portion, a flexible cover, a pressurization member and a controller, a method of controlling pressurized infusion and temperature of intravenous fluids comprising the steps of:
- (a) receiving an intravenous fluid container within said recessed heating assembly, wherein said flexible cover is wrapped around and contours a portion of said fluid container to secure said fluid container against said heating assembly;
(b) heating said fluid container to a desired temperature via said heating assembly;
(c) applying a desired pressure to said fluid container, via said pressurization member, to control a flow rate of fluid flowing from said fluid container to a patient; and
(d) controlling at least one of said heating assembly and said pressurization member.

Abstract
A system for controlling pressurized infusion and temperature of intravenous fluids according to the present invention includes a housing, a heating assembly and a flexible cover. The heating assembly is recessed within the housing and includes a generally U-shaped configuration to surround and uniformly heat fluid within a fluid container placed thereon. The cover wraps around a portion of the fluid container to secure the fluid container against the heating assembly. The cover includes a pressurization member to apply a desired pressure to the fluid container to achieve a desired flow rate of intravenous fluid from the fluid container to an infusion site on a patient. The system further includes a controller to control the heating assembly and pressure within the pressurization member in accordance with desired temperature and pressure information entered into the controller for system operation.
