Abstract

A customer data capture system integrated with a dealership data management system allows customer and vehicle maintenance data to be exchanged between the data management system and a device, such as a PC, handheld device, or kiosk, which may communicate over an Internet or other connection. In an embodiment, the customer inserts a customized card into a kiosk on the floor of a dealership and interacts with pre-programmed software on the kiosk. The software recommends scheduled maintenance services and suggests potential coupon savings, based on the information received from the customer'"'"'s card and the information stored in the data management system. A service order is generated and routed to the service department. As a result, the accuracy and speed of entering customer data are enhanced, while the dealership is able to offer value-added services at the point of sale, thus enhancing the dealership'"'"'s business relationship with the customer.

Claims

1. A programmable apparatus comprising:

a. receiving means to receive input data from a user;

b. entering means to enter supplemental data that are different from the input data;

c. transmitting means to transmit the input data and the supplemental data to a data management system, the data management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

d. generating means to generate response data from the data management system, based in part on the input data and the supplemental data;

e. displaying means to display the input data, the supplemental data and the response data;

f. updating means to update the input data based in part on the supplemental data and the response data; and

g. storing means to store the updated input data.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 where the receiving means comprises a reader capable of processing input and output from a portable information storage device.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 where the transmitting means is selected from the group comprising radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 where the input data comprises customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, and coupon information.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 where the supplemental data comprises current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 where the response data comprises recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 where the data management system comprises a vehicle dealership management system.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 where the input data comprises a personal identification number (PIN).

9. The apparatus of claim 1 where the input data comprise administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising checking means to check access authorization of the input data from the user.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 where the storing means is a portable data storage device selected from the group comprising a smart card, a card with a magnetic memory strip, a bar-code card, a CD-rom, and a hand-held device.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 where the storing means is a dealer database system.

13. The apparatus in claim 1 further comprising displaying means to display pop up video clips.

14. The apparatus in claim 1 further comprising selecting means to select a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text.

15. The apparatus in claim 1 further comprising printing means to print the input data, supplemental data, and the response data.

16. A programmable apparatus comprising:

a. a smart card system (SCS) adapted to store and access information regarding vehicle dealership activities;

b. a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) electronically communicating with the smart card system, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer; and

c. a communication link between the SCS and DMS;

wherein

1. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored on a smart card and store the accessed data in the DMS, and print and display the accessed data,

2. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored in the DMS and store the accessed data on the SCS, and to print and display the accessed data,

3. the DMS and SCS are adapted to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data, and

4. the SCS is adapted to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the inputted data,

and further wherein the SCS comprises

1. a plurality of smart cards,

2. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

3. a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader,

4. a printer, communicating with the data entry station,

5. checking means to check access authorization of the input data from the user,

6. displaying means to display pop up video clips, and

7. selecting means to select a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text;

and wherein the communication link is selected from the group comprising;

radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication;

and further wherein the data entry station is selected from a group consisting of;

1. a data entry station that comprises;

a. a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard,

b. a keyboard, and

c. a mouse; and

2. a data entry station that comprises a PC computer with a display screen, a keyboard, and a mouse;

and further where the SCS receives;

a. inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, coupon information, personal identification number (PIN), and administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator;

b. supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion; and

c. response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

17. A programmable apparatus comprising:

a. a smart card system (SCS) adapted to store and access information regarding vehicle dealership activities;

b. a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) electronically communicating with the smart card system, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer; and

c. a communication link between the SCS and DMS.

18. The programmable apparatus in claim 17 where:

the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored on a smart card and store the accessed data in the DMS, and print and display the accessed data,

the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored in the DMS and store the accessed data on the SCS, and to print and display the accessed data, the DMS and SCS are adapted to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data, and

the SCS is adapted to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the inputted data.

19. The programmable apparatus in claim 17, where SCS comprises:

a plurality of smart cards,

a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader, and

a printer, communicating with the data entry station; and

wherein the communication link is selected from the groups comprising;

radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless, communication.

20. The programmable apparatus in claim 19, where the data entry station comprises:

a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard,

a keyboard, and

a mouse.

21. The programmable apparatus in claim 19, where the data entry station is a PC computer with a display screen, a keyboard, and a mouse, and the communication link is the Internet.

22. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 where the SCS receives inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, and coupon information.

23. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 where the SCS receives supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion.

24. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 where the SCS receives response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

25. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 where the SCS receives input data comprising a personal identification number (PIN).

26. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 where the SCS receives input data comprising administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator.

27. The programmable apparatus in claim 19, further comprising checking means to check access authorization of the input data from the user.

28. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 where the SCS further comprises displaying means to display pop up video clips.

29. The programmable apparatus in claim 19 further comprising selecting means to select a language from a plurality of choices for use in any displayed text.

30. A system integration method executed by a programmable apparatus comprising:

a. receiving input data from a user;

b. entering supplemental data that are different from the input data;

c. transmitting the input data and the supplemental data to a data management system, the data management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

d. generating with a programmable apparatus response data from the data management system, based in part on the input data and the supplemental data;

e. displaying the input data, the supplemental data and the response data;

f. updating the input data based in part on the supplemental data and the response data; and

g. storing the updated input data.

31. The method of claim 30 where the receiving step comprises receiving input data with a reader capable of processing input and output from a portable information storage device.

32. The method of claim 30 where the transmitting step transmits with a transmitting means that is selected from the group comprising radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication.

33. The method of claim 30 where the input data comprises customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, and coupon information.

34. The method of claim 30 where the supplemental data comprises current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion.

35. The method of claim 30 where the response data comprises recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

36. The method of claim 30 where the data management system comprises a vehicle dealership management system.

37. The method of claim 30 where the input data comprises a personal identification number (PIN).

38. The method of claim 30 where the input data comprises administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator.

39. The method of claim 30, further comprising checking access authorization of the input data from the user.

40. The method of claim 30 where the storing step stores the updated input data with a portable data storage device selected from the group comprising a smart card, a card with a magnetic memory strip, a bar-code card, a CD-rom, and a hand-held device.

41. The method of claim 30 where the storing step stores the updated input data with a dealer database system.

42. The method of claim 30 further comprising displaying pop up video clips.

43. The method of claim 30 further comprising selecting a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text.

44. The method of claim 30 further compromising printing the input data, supplemental data, and the response data.

45. A method for a programmable apparatus comprising:

a. storing and accessing information regarding vehicle dealership activities with a smart card system (SCS); and

b. communicating between a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) and the smart card system using a communication link between the SCS and DMS, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

wherein

1. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored on a smart card and store the accessed data in the DMS, and print and display the accessed data,

2. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored in the DMS and store the accessed data on the SCS, and to print and display the accessed data,

3. the DMS and SCS are adapted to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data, and

4. the SCS is adapted to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the inputted data,

and further wherein the SCS comprises

1. a plurality of smart cards,

2. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

3. a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader,

4. a printer, communicating with the data entry station,

5. checking means to check access authorization of the input data from the user,

6. displaying means to display pop up video clips, and

7. selecting means to select a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text;

and wherein the communication link is selected from the group comprising;

radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication;

and further wherein the data entry station is selected from a group consisting of;

1. a data entry station that comprises;

a. a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard,

b. a keyboard, and

c. a mouse; and

2. a data entry station that comprises a PC computer with a display screen, a keyboard, and a mouse;

and further where the SCS receives;

a. inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, coupon information, personal identification number (PIN), and administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator;

b. supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion; and

c. response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

46. A method for a programmable apparatus comprising:

a. storing and accessing information regarding vehicle dealership activities with a smart card system (SCS);

b. communicating between a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) and the smart card system using a communication link between the SCS and DMS, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer.

47. The method in claim 46 where:

a. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored on a smart card and store the accessed data in the DMS, and print and display the accessed data,

b. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored in the DMS and store the accessed data on the SCS, and to print and display the accessed data,

c. the DMS and SCS are adapted to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data, and

d. the SCS is adapted to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the inputted data.

48. The method in claim 46, where

a. the SCS comprises:

1. a plurality of smart cards,

2. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

3. a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader, and

4. a printer, communicating with the data entry station; and

wherein

b. the communication link is selected from the groups comprising;

radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication.

49. The method in claim 48, where the data entry station comprises:

a. a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard,

b. a keyboard, and

c. a mouse.

50. The method in claim 48, where

a. the data entry station is a PC computer with a display screen, a keyboard, and a mouse, and

b. the communication link is the Internet.

51. The method in claim 48 where the SCS receives inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, and coupon information.

52. The method in claim 48 where the SCS receives supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion.

53. The method in claim 48 where the SCS receives response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

54. The method in claim 48 where the SCS receives input data comprising a personal identification number (PIN).

55. The method in claim 48 where the SCS receives input data comprising administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator.

56. The method in claim 48, further comprising checking access authorization of the input data from the user.

57. The method in claim 48 where the SCS further comprises displaying means to display pop up video clips.

58. The method in claim 48 further comprising selecting a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text.

59. A machine readable memory medium containing instructions which, when executed by a programmable apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform a system integration method, the method comprising:

a. receiving input data from a user;

b. entering supplemental data that are different from the input data;

c. transmitting the input data and the supplemental data to a data management system, the data management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

d. generating response data from the data management system, based in part on the input data and the supplemental data;

e. displaying the input data, the supplemental data and the response data;

f. updating the input data based in part on the supplemental data and the response data; and

g. storing the updated input data.

60. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the receiving step comprises receiving input data with a reader capable of processing input and output from a portable information storage device.

61. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the transmitting step transmits with a transmitting means that is selected from the group comprising radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication.

62. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the input data comprises customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, and coupon information.

63. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the supplemental data comprises current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion.

64. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the response data comprises recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

65. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the data management system comprises a vehicle dealership management system.

70. The machine readable memory medium of claim 59 where the storing step stores the updated input data with a dealer database system.

71. The machine readable memory medium in claim 59 further comprising displaying pop up video clips.

72. The machine readable memory medium in claim 59 further comprising selecting a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text.

73. The machine readable memory medium in claim 59 further comprising printing the input data, supplemental data, and the response data.

67. The machine readable memory medium 59 where the input data comprises administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator.

74. A machine readable memory medium containing instructions which, when executed by a programmable apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform a system integration method, the method comprising:

a. storing and accessing information regarding vehicle dealership activities with a smart card system (SCS); and

b. communicating between a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) and the smart card system using a communication link between the SCS and DMS, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

wherein

1. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored on a smart card and store the accessed data in the DMS, and print and display the accessed data,

2. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored in the DMS and store the accessed data on the SCS, and to print and display the accessed data,

3. the DMS and SCS are adapted to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data, and

4. the SCS is adapted to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the inputted data,

and further wherein the SCS comprises

1. a plurality of smart cards,

2. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

3. a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader,

4. a printer, communicating with the data entry station,

5. checking means to check access authorization of the input data from the user,

6. displaying means to display pop up video clips, and

7. selecting means to select a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text;

and wherein the communication link is selected from the group comprising;

radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication;

and further wherein the data entry station comprises a keyboard, a mouse, and at least one of a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard and a PC computer with a display screen,

and further where the SCS receives;

a. inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, coupon information, personal identification number (PIN), and administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator;

b. supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion; and

c. response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date.

75. A machine readable memory medium containing instructions which, when executed by a programmable apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform a system integration method, the method comprising:

a. storing and accessing information regarding vehicle dealership activities with a smart card system (SCS);

b. communicating between a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) and the smart card system using a communication link between the SCS and DMS, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer.

76. The machine readable memory medium in claim 75 where:

a. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored on a smart card and store the accessed data in the DMS, and print and display the accessed data,

b. the DMS and SCS are adapted to access data stored in the DMS and store the accessed data on the SCS, and to print and display the accessed data,

c. the DMS and SCS are adapted to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data, and

d. the SCS is adapted to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the DMS, and in the SCS, and to print and to display the inputted data.

77. The machine readable memory medium in claim 75 where

a. the SCS comprises:

1. a plurality of smart cards,

2. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

3. a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader, and

4. a printer, communicating with the data entry station; and

wherein I

b. the communication link is selected from the groups comprising;

radio transmission, cable transmission, the Internet, leased telephone lines, wire, optical fiber, and wireless communication.

78. The machine readable memory medium in claim 77, where the data entry station comprises:

a. a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard,

a. the data entry station is a PC computer with a display screen, a keyboard, and a mouse, and

b. the communication link is the Internet.

88. A smart card system (SCS) comprising:

a. a plurality of smart cards,

b. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

102. A smart card system (SCS) comprising:

a. a plurality of smart cards,

b. a smart card reader, adapted to read the smart cards,

c. a data entry station, communicating with the smart card reader,

d. a printer, communicating with the data entry station,

e. checking means to check access authorization of the input data from the user,

f. displaying means to display pop up-video clips, and

g. selecting means to select a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text;

wherein the data entry station comprises a keyboard, a mouse, and at least one of a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard and a PC computer with a display screen,

and further where the SCS receives;

a. inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, coupon information, personal identification number (PIN), and administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator;

b. supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion; and

c. response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date;

and further where the SCS is adapted

a. to store and access information regarding vehicle dealership activities;

b. to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data;

c. to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the SCS, and to print and display the inputted data; and

103. A system integration method executed by a smart card system (SCS) comprising:

a. receiving input data on a plurality of smart cards,

b. reading the smart cards with a smart card reader,

c. entering and displaying data on a data entry station, said data entry station communicating with the smart card reader,

d. printing data with a printer, said printer communicating with the data entry station, and

e. communicating with a dealer management system (DMS), the dealer management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer.

104. The method in claim 103, where the data entry station comprises:

a. a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard,

b. a keyboard, and

a. receiving input data on a plurality of smart cards,

b. reading the smart cards with a smart card reader,

c. entering and displaying data on a data entry station, said data entry station communicating with the smart card reader,

d. printing data with a printer, said printer communicating with the data entry station, and

e. communicating with a dealer management system (DMS), the dealer management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer.

131. A machine readable memory medium containing instructions which, when executed by a smart card system (SCS), cause the SCS to perform a method comprising:

a. receiving input data on a plurality of smart cards,

b. reading the smart cards with a smart card reader,

c. entering and displaying data on a data entry station, said data entry station communicating with the smart card reader,

d. printing data with a printer, said printer communicating with the data entry station,

e. checking an access authorization of the input data from the user,

f. displaying pop up video clips, and

g. selecting a language from a plurality of choices for use in any printed and displayed text;

wherein the data entry station comprises a keyboard, a mouse, and at least one of a kiosk including a computer touch screen with an electronic keyboard and a PC computer with a display screen,

and further where the SCS receives;

a. inputted data comprising customer information, vehicle information, maintenance schedule information, coupon information, personal identification number (PIN), and administrator data that permit functions to be performed that are reserved for a system administrator;

b. supplemental data comprising current mileage, selected customer services, additional contact instructions, additional contact number and promised date and time of completion; and

c. response data comprising recommended services, a savings amount during a visit, and total savings amount to date;

and further where the SCS is adapted

a. to store and access information regarding vehicle dealership activities;

b. to generate data in a user session and store the generated data in the SCS, and to print and to display the generated data;

c. to receive input of supplemental data and store the inputted data in the SCS, and to print and display the inputted data; and

d. to communicate with a dealer management system (DMS), the dealer management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer.

132. A programmable apparatus comprising:

a. receiving means to receive input data from a user, the input data including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on an automobile;

b. entering means to enter supplemental data that are different from the input data;

c. transmitting means to transmit, over an Internet connection, the input data and the supplemental data to a data management system, the data management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

d. generating means to generate response data from the data management system, based in part on the input data and the supplemental data, the response data including at least scheduled appointment data;

e. displaying means to display the input data, the supplemental data and the response data;

f. updating means to update the input data based in part on the supplemental data and the response data; and

g. storing means to store the updated input data.

133. The programmable apparatus of claim 132, wherein the operation includes at least one of a service operation and a maintenance operation.

134. The programmable apparatus of claim 132, wherein the supplemental data include a personal identification number (PIN) of the user.

135. The programmable apparatus of claim 132, wherein the receiving means include a computer without a card reader.

136. The programmable apparatus of claim 132, wherein the input data are stored on a smart card of the user.

137. A programmable apparatus comprising:

a. a smart card system (SCS) adapted to store and access information regarding vehicle dealership activities including vehicle service activities;

b. a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) electronically communicating with the smart card system, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer; and

c. an Internet communication link between the SCS and DMS,

wherein the SCS is configured to receive input data from a user, the user input data including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on an automobile, and

wherein the DMS is configured to receive the user input data from the SCS over the Internet communication link and to schedule the at least one appointment.

138. The programmable apparatus of claim 137, wherein the operation includes at least one of a service operation and a maintenance operation.

139. The programmable apparatus of claim 137, wherein the user input data include a personal identification number (PIN) of the user.

140. A system integration method executed by a programmable apparatus comprising:

a. receiving input data from a user, the input data including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on an automobile;

b. entering supplemental data that are different from the input data;

c. transmitting, over an Internet connection, the input data and the supplemental data to a data management system, the data management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

d. generating with a programmable apparatus response data from the data management system, based in part on the input data and the supplemental data, the response data including at least scheduled appointment data;

e. displaying the input data, the supplemental data and the response data;

f. updating the input data based in part on the supplemental data and the response data; and

g. storing the updated input data.

141. The system integration method of claim 140, wherein the operation includes at least one of a service operation and a maintenance operation.

142. The system integration method of claim 140, wherein the supplemental data include a personal identification number (PIN) of the user.

143. The system integration method of claim 140, wherein the input data are stored on a smart card of the user.

144. A system integration method executed by a programmable apparatus comprising:

a. storing and accessing information regarding vehicle dealership activities including vehicle service activities, with a smart card system (SCS);

b. communicating between a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) and the smart card system using an Internet communication link between the SCS and DMS, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with. prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

c. receiving input data from a user by the SCS, the user input data including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on an automobile;

d. receiving the user input data from the SCS by the DMS, over the Internet communication link; and

e. scheduling the at least one appointment by the DMS.

145. The system integration method of claim 144, wherein the operation includes at least one of a service operation and a maintenance operation.

146. The system integration method of claim 144, wherein the user input data include a personal identification number (PIN) of the user.

147. A machine readable memory medium containing instructions which, when executed by a programmable apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform a system integration method, the method comprising:

a. receiving input data from a user, the input data including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on an automobile;

b. entering supplemental data that are different from the input data;

c. transmitting, over an Internet connection, the input data and the supplemental data to a data management system, the data management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

d. generating with a programmable apparatus response data from the data management system, based in part on the input data and the supplemental data, the response data including at least scheduled appointment data;

e. displaying the input data, the supplemental data and the response data;

f. updating the input data based in part on the supplemental data and the response data; and

g. storing the updated input data.

148. A machine readable memory medium containing instructions which, when executed by a programmable apparatus, cause the apparatus to perform a system integration method, the method comprising:

a. storing and accessing information regarding vehicle dealership activities including vehicle service activities, with a smart card system (SCS);

b. communicating between a vehicle dealership management system (DMS) and the smart card system using an Internet communication link between the SCS and DMS, the dealership management system configured to provide a customer incentive package with selectively offered incentives, wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system and wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system, wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer;

c. receiving input data from a user by the SCS, the user input data including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on an automobile;

d. receiving the user input data from the SCS by the DMS, over the Internet communication link; and

e. scheduling the at least one appointment by the DMS.

149. A method implemented by a programmable apparatus for providing a graphical user interface to interact with a data management system including a customer incentive package linked to a maintenance schedule for an automobile, comprising:

displaying on a viewing device a plurality of fields including input data, supplemental data, and response data fields,

at least one input data field including at least scheduling data indicative of a user request to schedule at least one appointment for an operation to be performed on the automobile;

at least one supplemental data field including data that are different from the input data; and

at least one response data field including at least scheduled appointment data and selectively offered customer incentives from the data management system,

wherein the selectively offered customer incentives are at least in part associated with prior maintenance services performed on a vehicle by a vehicle service entity associated with the data management system;

wherein the incentives are at least in part associated with recommended maintenance services to be performed on the vehicle by the vehicle service entity associated with the data management system; and

wherein the incentives are selectively offered based at least in part on a vehicle maintenance schedule for a customer.

150. The method of claim 149, wherein the operation includes at least one of a service operation and a maintenance operation.

151. The method of claim 149, wherein the supplemental data include a personal identification number (PIN) of the user.

152. The method of claim 149, wherein the input data are stored on a smart card of the user.

153. The method of claim 149, wherein the displayed fields further include at least one of a trade-in accrual amount, a vehicle warranty, an amount saved on a current visit, and a total saved field.

154. The method of claim 149, wherein the displayed fields further include at least one of a customer name, an auto, a mileage, a previous mileage, a vehicle identification number (VIN), a balance, a visit number, a coupons used, a maintenance performed, and a recommended services field.
