Abstract

A printhead assembly includes an ink storage and distribution assembly connectable to an ink supply. An elongate printhead integrated circuit is mounted on the ink storage and distribution assembly to receive ink therefrom. A housing is positioned on the ink storage and distribution assembly. A pair of busbars is mounted on the housing. A tape automated bonding strip is connected between each busbar and the printhead integrated circuit to provide power and control signals to the printhead integrated circuit.

Claims

1. A printhead for a printer, the printhead including:

a substrate; and

a plurality of ink ejection nozzle assemblies positioned on the substrate, each nozzle assembly having a nozzle chamber structure that defines a nozzle chamber and an ink ejection port in fluid communication with the nozzle chamber, the nozzle assemblies being positioned so that the ink ejection ports collectively form a plurality of longitudinally extending, spaced apart sets;

wherein each set includes two rows of nozzle chamber structures, each nozzle chamber structure having a roof that defines an ink ejection port such that the ink ejection ports themselves are positioned in two rows.

2. A printhead as claimed in claim 1, wherein three sets of nozzle assemblies are positioned on the substrate.

3. A printhead as claimed in claim 1, wherein the substrate defines a plurality of ink supply channels in fluid communication with respective groups of nozzle chambers in each set.

A printhead as claimed in claim 1, wherein each nozzle assembly includes an ink ejection member positioned in the nozzle chamber, displaceable to eject ink from the ink ejection port, and an elongate actuator assembly attached at a first end with the substrate and attached at a second end with the ink ejection member, drive circuitry being arranged on the substrate to provide the actuator assembly with a drive signal to displace the actuator assembly with respect to the substrate such that the ink ejection member ejects ink from the ink ejection port.

5. A printhead as claimed in claim 4, wherein each actuator is configured to be thermally actuated.

A printhead as claimed in claim 4, in which the actuator assemblies are positioned with respect to the nozzle chamber structures such that the actuator assemblies associated with respective rows are positioned side-by-side and angled with respect to a line orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the substrate.
