Abstract
A host digital terminal HDT performs backbone functions to a subscriber access network, while the network side of the HDT is connected to many data transfer networks and the other side of the HDT is connected to many optical network units ONUs. The HDT performs mutual interactions to many units by the ATM cell switching or by the STM cross connections, while the units perform predetermined functions, such as ANIU, HNIU, HIU, and HTIU. Therefore, the HDT overcomes capacity limits according to mutual interactions among the units through the conventional common bus.
