Abstract

A soybean cultivar, designated 1000126, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of soybean cultivar 1000126, to the plants of soybean cultivar 1000126, to plant parts of soybean cultivar 1000126 and to methods for producing a soybean plant produced by crossing soybean cultivar 1000126 with itself or with another soybean variety. The invention also relates to methods for producing a soybean plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic soybean plants and plant parts produced by those methods. This invention also relates to soybean cultivars or breeding cultivars and plant parts derived from soybean cultivar 1000126, to methods for producing other soybean cultivars, lines or plant parts derived from soybean cultivar 1000126 and to the soybean plants, varieties, and their parts derived from use of those methods. The invention further relates to hybrid soybean seeds, plants and plant parts produced by crossing soybean cultivar 1000126 with another soybean cultivar.

Claims

1. A seed of soybean cultivar 1000126, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8154.

2. A soybean plant, or a part thereof, produced by growing the seed of claim 1.

3. A tissue culture of cells produced from the plant of claim 2.

4. A protoplast produced from the plant of claim 2 or the tissue culture of claim 3.

5. The tissue culture according to claim 3, wherein said cells of the tissue culture are produced from a plant part selected from the group consisting of leaves, pollen, embryos, cotyledons, hypocotyl, meristematic cells, roots, root tips, anthers, pistils, flowers, stems and pods.

6. A soybean plant regenerated from the tissue culture of claim 3, wherein the regenerated plant has all the morphological and physiological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126.

7. A method for producing an F1 hybrid soybean seed, wherein the method comprises crossing the plant of claim 2 with a different soybean plant and harvesting the resultant hybrid F1 hybrid soybean seed.

8. A hybrid soybean seed produced by the method of claim 7.

9. A hybrid soybean plant, or a part thereof, produced by growing said hybrid seed of claim 8.

10. A method of producing a soybean seed wherein the method comprises growing said hybrid soybean plant of claim 9 and harvesting the resultant seed.

11. A method for producing a male sterile soybean plant wherein the method comprises transforming the soybean plant of claim 2 with a nucleic acid molecule.

12. A male sterile soybean plant produced by the method of claim 11.

13. A method of producing an herbicide resistant soybean plant wherein the method comprises transforming the soybean plant of claim 2 with a transgene that confers herbicide resistance.

14. An herbicide resistant soybean plant produced by the method of claim 13.

15. The soybean plant of claim 14, wherein the transgene confers resistance to an herbicide selected from the group consisting of imidazolinone, sulfonylurea, glyphosate, glufosinate, L-phosphinothricin, triazine and benzonitrile.

16. A method of producing an insect resistant soybean plant wherein the method comprises transforming the soybean plant of claim 2 with a transgene that confers insect resistance.

17. An insect resistant soybean plant produced by the method of claim 16.

18. The soybean plant of claim 17, wherein the transgene encodes a Bacillus thuringiensis endotoxin.

19. A method of producing a disease resistant soybean plant wherein the method comprises transforming the soybean plant of claim 2 with a transgene that confers disease resistance.

20. A disease resistant soybean plant produced by the method of claim 19.

21. A method of producing a soybean plant with modified fatty acid metabolism or modified carbohydrate metabolism wherein the method comprises transforming the soybean plant of claim 2 with a transgene encoding a protein selected from the group consisting of fructosyltransferase, levansucrase, alpha-amylase, invertase, and starch branching enzyme or encoding an antisense of stearyl-ACP desaturase.

22. A soybean plant having modified fatty acid metabolism or modified carbohydrate metabolism produced by the method of claim 21.

23. A soybean plant, or part thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126.

24. A method of introducing a desired trait into soybean cultivar 1000126 wherein the method comprises:

(a) crossing a 1000126 plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8154, with a plant of another soybean cultivar that comprises a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease or viral disease;

(b) selecting one or more F1 progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;

(c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the 1000126 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;

(d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126 listed in Table 1 to produce selected backcross progeny plants; and

(e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126 listed in Table 1.

25. A plant produced by the method of claim 24, wherein the plant has the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126 listed in Table 1.

26. The plant of claim 25, wherein the desired trait is herbicide resistance and the resistance is conferred to an herbicide selected from the group consisting of imidazolinone, sulfonylurea, glyphosate, glufosinate, L-phosphinothricin, triazine and benzonitrile.

27. The plant of claim 25, wherein the desired trait is insect resistance and the insect resistance is conferred by a transgene encoding a Bacillus thuringiensis endotoxin.

28. The plant of claim 25, wherein the desired trait is male sterility and the trait is conferred by a nucleic acid molecule.

29. A method of modifying fatty acid metabolism or modifying carbohydrate metabolism of soybean cultivar 1000126 wherein the method comprises:

(a) crossing a 1000126 plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8154, with a plant of another soybean cultivar to produce F1 progeny plants that comprise a nucleic acid molecule encoding an enzyme selected from the group consisting of phytase, fructosyltransferase, levansucrase, alpha-amylase, invertase, and starch branching enzyme or encoding an antisense of stearyl-ACP desaturase;

(b) selecting one or more F1 progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule to produce selected progeny plants;

(c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the 1000126 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;

(d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule and physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126 listed in Table 1 to produce selected backcross progeny plants; and

(e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise said nucleic acid molecule and have all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126 listed in Table 1.

30. A plant produced by the method of claim 29, wherein the plant comprises the nucleic acid molecule and has all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar 1000126 listed in Table 1.
