1. A method for holding a starter motor for testing, comprising:
- resting a first side of the starter motor on a base, having a pad mounted to the base that provides a support rest to the first side of the starter motor;
pivoting a ratcheting arm having a ratchet assembly and a second pad to contact a second, opposite side of the starter motor; and
urging the ratcheting arm such that the starter motor is gripped between the first pad and the second pad, wherein the ratchet assembly comprises a pawl slidably mounted with respect to the pivoting ratchet arm and teeth provided on a ratchet support mounted to the base, such that movement of the ratcheting arm in one direction causes it to lock against movement in the other direction.
