1. An RFID system comprising:
- an RFID device embodied in a label or tag; and
an electrically-conductive material that is not a part of the label or tag, that cooperates with the RFID device to enhance performance of the RFID device;
wherein the RFID device has a wavelength of energy most preferentially received;
wherein at least part of an antenna structure of the RFID device is within one-quarter of the wavelength, of the conductive material; and
wherein the antenna structure is not in contact with the conductive material.

Abstract
A radio frequency identification (RFID) system includes an RFID device, and a conductive material that cooperates with the RFID device to enhance performance of the RFID device. The RFID device and the conductive material may be within a distance of about one-quarter of a wavelength of energy most preferentially received by the RFID device. The RFID device may be mounted at an angle to the conductive material. Alternatively, or in addition, the RFID device may be partially overlapped by the conductive material. The RFID device may include a conductive antenna structure having an aperture therein.

19. An RFID system comprising:
-
an RFID device; and an electrically-conductive material that cooperates with the RFID device to enhance performance of the RFID device; wherein the conductive material is part of an object that the RFID device is attached to; wherein the RFID device includes a protrusion that maintains an antenna structure at a non-zero angle relative to the conductive material; and wherein the protrusion has a triangular shape.

20. A method of enhancing performance of an RFID device, the method comprising:
-
providing the RFID device embodied in a label or tag; and placing at least part of an antenna structure of the RFID device less than a quarter of a wavelength of energy preferentially received by the RFID device away from an electrically-conductive material that is at least part of an object that is not a part of the label or tag, so as to enhance performance of the RFID device; wherein the placing includes placing the RFID device such that the antenna structure is not in contact with the conductive material. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28)
