1. A method for designing a roller cone drill bit, comprising:
- determining a position of a drive row on at least one cone, comprising;
simulating drilling the drill bit through an earth formation;
determining a rotation ratio of the cone; and
determining a position on the axis of the cone where the rotation ratio is substantially the same as a ratio of the distance of the drive row to the axis of the cone to the radius of the cone;
selecting an orientation for at least one cutting element based on the determined drive row position; and
outputting a roller cone drill bit design having the selected orientation.
