1. A wireless apparatus comprising:
- an RF subsystem to support communication over a wireless network according to a specified network protocol, wherein the RF subsystem includes a baseband processor to measure power of a received signal, to select a received signal strength indication (RSSI) value corresponding to the power measurement and based on the selection attempt a transmission at an initial power state, wherein if the transmission is unsuccessful the baseband processor increases the power state by a predetermined amount and attempts to retransmit the transmission;
a Host subsystem to execute program code and process data; and
an interface, coupled between the Host subsystem and the RF subsystem, to provide communication of control signals between said RF subsystem and said Host subsystem, said control signals allowing said RF subsystem to enter into a low power state independent of said Host subsystem and to wirelessly transmit a control signal from the Host subsystem to the RF subsystem to cause the RF subsystem to exit the low power state upon a RF triggering event occurring at the Host subsystem.

10. A power management interface for a data processing apparatus comprising:

a Host subsystem; a Host subsystem power management logic to cause the Host subsystem to enter and exit a low power state responsive to a first set of a defined power management events; and a RF subsystem power management logic to cause a baseband processor and a RF transceiver to enter and exit low power states responsive to a second and third set of defined power management events independent from the Host subsystem, and to wirelessly receive a control signal from the Host subsystem to exit the low Power state upon a RF triggering event occurring at the Host subsystem, wherein the baseband processor is to measure the power of a received signal, to select a received signal strength indication (RSSI) value corresponding to a power measurement and based on the selection attempt a transmission at an initial power state, wherein if the transmission is unsuccessful the baseband processor increases the power state by a predetermined amount and attempts to retransmit the transmission. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22)
