1. A method for reducing scar formation at a wound site comprising administering to the wound site an effective amount of a composition consisting essentially of:
- hyaluronic acid, or the sodium salt thereof; and
an alkalinizing agent in an amount sufficient to raise the pH of the wound site, to allow the wound site to heal and thereby reduce scar formation at the site, wherein the composition has an alkaline pH of about 8.5 to 10.

Abstract
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for inhibiting scar formation on wound region. In certain embodiments, the methods include administering an alkalinization agent in combination with hyaluronic acid to a wound site to reduce the formation of scars at the wound site. Suitable alkalization agents include sodium bicarbonate, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide.
