1. A method for biometric enrollment and authentication of a user, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing an electro-optic scanner with a planar platen;
(b) first placing a user'"'"'s hand on the planar platen and first scanning the underside of the user'"'"'s hand;
(c) collecting an enrollment image from the underside of the user'"'"'s hand,(d) detecting a plurality of prominent lines within the contour of the said enrollment, said prominent lines meeting a previously defined minimum for width;
(e) storing said enrollment image thereby enrolling the user prior to the biometric authentication;
(f) second scanning said user'"'"'s hand while collecting an authentication image from solely a portion the user'"'"'s hand; and
(g) detecting a plurality of prominent lines within said portion thereby comparing the prominent lines of said authentication image to the corresponding prominent lines within a portion of said enrollment image, thereby performing the authentication.
