System and method for using web services with an enterprise system
First Claim
1. A system for using Web services with a system resource, comprising:
- a resource adapter adapted to expose functionality in a resource, said resource including at least one of;
an enterprise information system (EIS), a customer relations management system, and a database system, wherein said resource adapter exposes internal functionality accessible by a specific proprietary interface of said resource;
an application view component deployed for each resource adapter, said application view component associated with a specific business process and adapted to provide an interface object to the resource through the resource adapter, wherein the application view component provides a layer of abstraction on top of the resource adapter-by converting steps of the business process into operations on the resource adapter;
a web service that accesses the resource through said application view component; and
an application view control invoked by the web service in order to allow the web service to access the resource using the application view component wherein the application view control exposes the services and methods of the application view component to the web service;
wherein calls to the resource are made from within the web service by invoking methods on the application view control.

Abstract
An application view control can be added to a Web service to allow the Web service to make requests into a resource such as en enterprise system through an integration system. The integration system can include a resource adapter that can invoke functionality in the enterprise system, as well as an application view component that acts as an interface through which the functionality can be exposed to the application view control. The application view component can allow the Web service to accomplish tasks such as subscribing to application view events. A callback object can be used to notify a client of the Web service that an event has occurred in the underlying resource.
