1. A method for displaying data from storage operation cells, the method comprising:
- at a parent storage operation cell, receiving data associated with a condition of a first storage operation cell, the first storage operation cell being arranged as a child cell to the parent storage operation cell in a hierarchy of storage operation cells, the data including at least a first identifier associated with a first storage resource, the first storage operation cell comprising at least a storage manager component and the first storage resource;
at the parent storage operation cell, receiving data associated with a condition of a second storage operation cell comprising a second storage resource, the second storage operation cell being arranged as a child cell of the parent storage operation cell in the hierarchy of storage operation cells, the data including at least a second identifier associated with the second storage resource;
determining whether the first identifier is distinguishable from the second identifier;
upon determining that the first identifier is not distinguishable from the second identifier, generating a third identifier and associating the third identifier with the first storage resource, wherein the third identifier is distinguishable from the second identifier; and
displaying the data associated with the first and second storage operation cells, the displayed data including at least the second or third identifier.

The present invention provides systems and methods for data storage. A hierarchical storage management architecture is presented to facilitate data management. The disclosed system provides methods for evaluating the state of stored data relative to enterprise needs by using weighted parameters that may be user defined. Also disclosed are systems and methods evaluating costing and risk management associated with stored data.

11. A method for performing a storage operation in a storage operation cell, the method comprising:

receiving data associated with a condition of a first storage operation cell, the data including at least a first identifier identifying a first storage resource within the first storage operation cell, the first storage operation cell comprising at least a storage manager component and the first storage resource; receiving data associated with a condition of a second storage operation cell, the data including at least a second identifier identifying the first storage resource within the second storage operation cell, wherein the first and second storage operation cells are logically separate but share at least the first storage resource; at a third storage operation cell hierarchically related as a parent to the first and second storage operation cells, determining whether the first identifier is distinct from the second identifier; upon determining that the first identifier is distinct from the second identifier, generating a third identifier uniquely identifying the first storage resource within the third storage operation cell; determining whether the data associated with the condition of the first storage operation cell satisfies a storage-related criterion; and upon determining that the data associated with the condition of the first storage operation cell satisfies the storage-related criterion, performing a storage operation based at least in part upon the determination. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
