1. A method of treating wastewater from Urban Water Runoff, the method comprising:
- capturing untreated wastewater from Urban Water Runoff before the Urban Water Runoff reaches a public waterway, wherein the Urban Water Runoff results from surface water flows that are normally discharged to public waterway if not captured;
applying a mechanical filtration device to the wastewater under treatment so as to reduce an elevated level of particulate matter contained therein;
applying an adsorptive organoclay media filter to the wastewater under treatment so as to reduce an elevated level of hydrocarbon matter contained therein;
applying a sterilizer to the wastewater under treatment so as to reduce an elevated level of one of bacteriological and viral contaminants contained therein, wherein the wastewater is treated by the adsorptive organoclay media filter after being treated by the mechanical filtration device and before being treated by the sterilizer; and
discharging treated wastewater to the public waterway.

Abstract
The apparatus and methods of the present invention enable efficient and appropriate treatment of Urban Water Runoff, so that the treated Urban water Runoff can be can be introduced into public waterways without contaminating such waterways. The system apparatus utilizes adsorptive Organoclay media, mechanical filtration and ultraviolet sterilization. The methods and apparatus of the present invention remove contaminants from Urban Water Runoff to a level which enable the resulting effluent to meet appropriate standards for introducing the treated Urban water Runoff in to public waterways. The method and apparatus of water treatment of the present invention does not utilize chlorine containing compounds which, when combined with organic compounds can produce THM'"'"'s that can become problematic when re-introduced to the downstream environment. The systems of the present invention can be made sufficiently compact so as to enable their use in remote locations.

23. A system for treating Urban Water Runoff, the system comprising:

a water inlet, said inlet capturing wastewater under treatment before the Urban Water Runoff reaches a public waterway, wherein the Urban Water Runoff results from surface water flows that are normally discharged to a public waterway if not captured; a mechanical filter, said mechanical filter reducing an elevated level of particulate matter in the wastewater under treatment; an adsorptive organoclay media filter reducing an elevated level of hydrocarbon contaminants in the wastewater under treatment; a sterilizer that reduces an elevated level of viral and bacterial contaminants in the wastewater under treatment wherein the wastewater is treated by the adsorptive organoclay media filter after being treated by the mechanical filtration device and before being treated by the sterilizer; a programmable logic unit that controls an actuation of the mechanical filter, the adsorptive organoclay media filter and the sterilizer; and a water outlet that allows treated wastewater to exit the system and be discharged to the public waterway. - View Dependent Claims (24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50)
