1. A visual display apparatus comprising:
- a lightpipe having a solid body portion;
a first projection extending outwardly from the body portion; and
a second projection extending outwardly from the body portion in a direction substantially 180 degrees from the first projection, the first and second projections each have a centerline that is common with a centerline with the body portion, have planar distal ends parallel to each other, and have different geometric cross-sections configured to produce different geometric illumination patterns;
one of the first and second projections having its distal end adapted to receive light from an external source and the other of the first and second projections having its distal end adapted to transmit the light outwardly.

18. An electronic apparatus having a visual display comprising:

a panel with an aperture; a lightpipe having a solid body portion; a first projection extending outwardly from the body portion; a second projection extending outwardly from the body portion in a direction substantially 180 degrees opposite the first projection, the first and second projections each have a centerline that is common with a centerline with the body portion, have planar distal ends parallel to each other, and have different geometric cross-sections configured to produce different geometric illumination patterns; means for mounting the lightpipe so that the first projection extends through the aperture; and source of light mounted adjacent the lightpipe so as to provide illumination into the lightpipe through the planar distal end of the second projection to cause at least the distal end of the first projection to emit light. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29)

a lightpipe having a solid body portion; at least first, second, third and fourth projections each extending outwardly from the body portion and each having a planar distal end; and the second projection extending outwardly from the body portion in a direction substantially 180 degrees opposite the first projection, the fourth projection extending outwardly from the body portion in a direction substantially 180 degrees opposite the third projection, all of said projections each having different geometric shapes to produce different geometric illumination patterns, the planar distal end of one of the first, second, third and fourth projections adapted to receive light from an external source and the distal end of the projection extending 180 degrees from said one adapted to transmit the light outwardly. - View Dependent Claims (31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36)

a lightpipe having a solid body portion; a first means associated with the body for producing a first geometric illumination pattern in a first direction extending outwardly from the body portion; and a second means associated with the body and disposed substantially 180 degrees opposite the first means for producing a second geometric illumination pattern in a second direction extending outwardly from the body portion, the first and second means each having a distal end where a distal end of one of the first and second means is disposed to receive light from an external source and the distal end of the other of the first and second means is disposed to transmit the light outwardly. - View Dependent Claims (38, 39, 40, 41, 42)
