1. A method of determining a nucleotide sequence of a nucleic acid comprising the steps of:

  • (a) conducting a nucleic acid polymerase reaction in the presence of at least one detectable terminal-phosphate-labeled nucleotide in the polyphosphate chain, which reaction results in the production of a labeled polyphosphate that is released from the detectable terminal-phosphate labeled nucleotide; and

    (b) identifying during the polymerase reaction said released labeled polyphosphate or said terminal-phosphate-labeled nucleotide that yields said labeled polyphosphate in said reaction, thereby determining said nucleotide sequence of said nucleic acid.
