1. An occluder for preventing flow in an infusion set comprising:
- a body having a first end and a second end and having a cylindrical bore therethrough connecting the first end and the second end and defining round openings at the first end and second end, the first end being configured for disposition in a tube of an infusion set;
a stop configured for disposition in the tube to thereby selectively allow and prevent flow through the infusion set, the stop having a first end, a second end, and a middle portion therebetween, the middle portion of the body having a diameter greater than the first end and the second end of the stop; and
a plurality of arms connecting the stop to the body, the plurality of arms being attached to the first end of the body without blocking the bore through the body and without blocking the opening of the bore at the first end of the body, the arms being attached to the first end of the stop; and
wherein the occluder is configured for disposition in a tube having a smooth bore of consistent diameter in the area of the tube functionally associated with the occluder.

Abstract
An apparatus and method for preventing free flow through an infusion set utilizes an occluder disposed within the infusion set to selectively prevent flow therethrough. The occluder may be responsive to a pressure differential within the infusion set or may respond to compression of the infusion set. When a pair of occluders are used in sequence, an in-line pump may be formed.
