Abstract

In one embodiment, watch rules can be created for diagnosis information. The watch rules can be examined against the diagnosis information and if there is a match, a notification can be based upon a predetermined notification type.

Claims

1. A computer-based method comprising:

running applications on an application server, the application server being software running on top of an operating system on one or more processors;

obtaining diagnosis information for the application server;

using configured watch rules to determine whether to produce a notification, the stored watch rules being evaluated against the diagnosis information;

using configured notification types to determine the type of notification to be sent; and

sending the notification.

2. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the diagnosis information is in memory.

3. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the watch rules can be compound rules including a number of primitive rules.

4. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the notification types include an e-mail notification.

5. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the notification types include a JMS message to a queue.

6. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the notification types include an SNMP trap.

7. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the notification types include a log record.

8. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the notification types include the creation of a diagnostic image.

9. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the notification types include a JMX notification.

10. The computer-based method of claim 1, wherein the watch rules are stored in a config.xml file.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the watch rules can be compound rules including a number of primitive rules.

11. A computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer, the computer readable medium comprising:

code to run applications on an application server, the application server being software running on top of an operating system on one or more processors,

code to use configured watch rules to determine whether to produce a notification, the stored watch rules being evaluated against diagnosis information for application server;

code to use configured notification type to determine the type of notification to be sent, and

code to send the notification.

12. The of claim 11, wherein the diagnosis information is in memory.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the notification types include an e-mail notification.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the notification types include a JMS message to a queue.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the notification types include an SNMP trap.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the notification types include a log record.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the notification types include the creation of a diagnostic image.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the notification types include a JMX notification.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 11, wherein the watch rules are stored in a config.xml file.

21. A computer-based method comprising:

obtaining diagnosis information;

persisting the diagnosis information into at least two different types of archives;

using an accessor component to interrogate the persisted diagnosis information in the at least two different types of archives according to watch rules;

wherein the watch rules are used to determine whether to send a notification and wherein if a notification is to be sent, transmitting the notification.

22. The computer-based method of claim 21, wherein the archives include a database.

23. The computer-based method of claim 21, wherein the archives include a persistent store.

24. The computer-based method of claim 21, wherein the archives include a flat file.

25. The computer-based method of claim 24, wherein the flat file stores log info.

26. A computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer comprising:

code to persist diagnosis information into at least two different types of archives;

code to interrogate the persisted diagnosis information in the at least two different types of archives according to watch rules;

wherein the watch rules are used to determine whether to send a notification and wherein if a notification is to be sent, transmitting the notification.

27. The computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer of claim 26, wherein the archives include a database.

28. The computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer of claim 26, wherein an accessor component is used to interrogate the persisted diagnosis information.

29. The computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer of claim 28, wherein the archives include a persistent store.

30. The computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer of claim 26, wherein the archives include a flat file.

31. The computer readable medium adapted to functionally interact with a computer of claim 30, wherein the flat file stores log info.
