Abstract

A sunless tanning composition having dihydroacetone and an amphoglycinate (amphoacetate) in an amount effective for sunless tanning is provided. Also provided is a method of sunless tanning having the step of topically applying to the skin an effective amount of a sunless tanning composition having dihydroacetone and an amphoglycinate.

Claims

1. A sunless tanning composition comprising:

dihydroxyacetone and an amphoglycinate in an amount effective for sunless tanning.

2. The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, wherein said amphoglycinate is represented by the formula:

3. The sunless tanning composition of claim 2, wherein R is a mixture of alkyls selected from the group consisting of linear and branched C₁₀ to C₂₄ alkyls and any ranges therebetween.

4. The sunless tanning composition of claim 3, wherein R is a C₁₂ to C₂₂ alkyl.

5. The sunless tanning composition of claim 4, wherein R is a C₁₄ to C₂₀ alkyl.

The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, wherein said amphoglycinate is selected from the group consisting of sodium oliveamphoacetate, sodium sunflowerseed amphoacetate, sodium cocoabutter amphoacetate, sodium sesame amphoacetate, sodium sweetalmond amphoacetate, sodium caproamphoacetate, sodium capryloamphoacetate, sodium isostearoamphoacetate, sodium lauroamphoacetate, sodium myristoamphoacetate, sodium oleoamphoacetate, sodium palmamphoacetate, sodium peanutamphoacetate, sodium ricinoleoamphoacetate, sodium stearoamphoacetate, sodium tallowamphoacetate, sodium undecylenamphoacetate, sodium wheat germamphoacetate, and any mixtures thereof.

7. The sunless tanning composition of claim 2, wherein n is 2.

8. The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, wherein said dihydroxyacetone is about 1 wt % to about 10 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

9. The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, wherein said amphoglycinate is about 1 wt % to about 30 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

10. The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, further comprising:

a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.

11. The sunless tanning composition of claim 10, wherein said cosmetically acceptable vehicle is up to 98 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

12. The sunless tanning composition of claim 10, further comprising:

at lease one ingredient selected from the group consisting of one or more sugars, keto-sugar, methylsulfonyl methane (MSM), surface-active agents, polymers, softening agents, moisturizers, water-proofing agents, vitamins, UV filters, skin penetration agents, antioxidants, humectants, preservatives, fragrances, and any combinations thereof.

13. The sunless tanning composition of claim 12, wherein said at lease one ingredient is up to 30 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, comprising a first component and a second component, wherein said first component comprises dihydroxyacetone and optionally a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, and wherein said second component comprises an amphoglycinate and optionally a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.

15. The sunless tanning composition of claim 14, wherein at least one of said first and said second components further comprises:

an ingredient selected from the group consisting of one or more sugars, surface-active agents, polymers, softening agents, moisturizers, water-proofing agents, vitamins, UV filters, skin penetration agents, and any combinations thereof.

The sunless tanning composition of claim 1, wherein said sunless tanning composition is a product selected from the group consisting of solution, emulsion, serum, lotion, skin cleanser, body wash, body scrub, bar soap, liquid soap, skin care preparation, foam, mousse, cream, lotion, pomade, balm, stick, gel, pump spray, and aerosol spray, and any combinations thereof.

17. A method of sunless tanning comprising the step of:

topically applying to the skin an effective amount of a sunless tanning composition comprising dihydroxyacetone and an amphoglycinate.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein said amphoglycinate is represented by the formula:

19. The method of claim 18, wherein R is a mixture of alkyls selected from the group consisting of linear and branched C₁₀ to C₂₄ alkyls and any ranges therebetween.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein R is a C₁₂ to C₂₂ alkyl.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein R is a C₁₄ to C₂₀ alkyl.

22. The method of claim 17, wherein said amphoglycinate in said sunless tanning composition is selected from the group consisting of sodium oliveamphoacetate, sodium sunflowerseed amphoacetate;

sodium cocoabutter amphoacetate;

sodium sesame amphoacetate;

sodium sweetalmond amphoacetate;

sodium caproamphoacetate, sodium capryloamphoacetate, sodium isostearoamphoacetate, sodium lauroamphoacetate, sodium myristoamphoacetate, sodium oleoamphoacetate, sodium palmamphoacetate, sodium peanutamphoacetate, sodium ricinoleoamphoacetate, sodium stearoamphoacetate, sodium tallowamphoacetate, sodium undecylenamphoacetate, sodium wheat germamphoacetate, and any mixtures thereof.

23. The method of claim 17, wherein said dihydroxyacetone in said sunless tanning composition is about 1 wt % to about 10 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

24. The method of claim 17, wherein said amphoglycinate in said sunless tanning composition is about 1 wt % to about 30 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

25. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein said cosmetically acceptable vehicle is up to 98 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

27. The method of claim 17, wherein said sunless tanning composition further comprising:

at lease one ingredient selected from the group consisting of one or more sugars, keto-sugar, methylsulfonyl methane (MSM), surface-active agents, polymers, softening agents, moisturizers, water-proofing agents, vitamins, UV filters, skin penetration agents, antioxidants, humectants, preservatives, fragrances, and any combinations thereof.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein said at lease one ingredient is up to 30 wt % of the sunless tanning composition.

The method of claim 17, wherein said sunless tanning composition comprises a first component and a second component, wherein said first component comprises dihydroxyacetone and optionally a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, and wherein said second component comprises an amphoglycinate and optionally a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein at least one of said first and said second components of said sunless tanning composition further comprises:

an ingredient selected from the group consisting of one or more sugars, surface-active agents, polymers, softening agents, moisturizers, water-proofing agents, vitamins, UV filters, skin penetration agents, and any combinations thereof.

31. The method of claim 17, wherein said sunless tanning composition is a product selected from the group consisting of solution, emulsion, serum, lotion, skin cleanser, body wash, body scrub, bar soap, liquid soap, skin care preparation, foam, mousse, cream, lotion, pomade, balm, stick, gel, pump spray, and aerosol spray, and any combinations thereof.
