1. A method of performing a biometric measurement on an individual, the method comprising:
- illuminating a purported skin site of the individual placed disposed relative to a platen under a plurality of distinct optical conditions during a single illumination session, at least one of the plurality of distinct optical conditions including illuminating the purported skin site with light at an angle greater than a platen-skin site critical angle defined by an interface of the platen with an external environment in the vicinity of the purported skin site and another of the distinct optical conditions including illuminating the purported skin site with light at an angle less than the critical angle; and
receiving light scattered from an interface of the platen and the purported skin site at an angle less than a platen-skin site critical angle from the purported skin site separately for each of multiple of the plurality of distinct optical conditions to derive a multispectral image of the purported skin site.

Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for performing a biometric measurement on an individual. A purported skin site of the individual disposed relative to a platen is illuminated under distinct optical conditions during a single illumination session. At least one of the optical conditions includes illuminating the purported skin site with light at an angle greater than a critical angle defined by an interface of the platen with an external environment. At least another of the distinct optical conditions includes illuminating the purported skin site with light at an angle less than the critical angle. Light scattered from the purported skin site is received separately for each of multiple optical conditions to derive a multispectral image of the purported skin site.

11. A biometric measurement system comprising:

a platen adapted for placement of a purported skin site by an individual; an illumination source; a light detector configured to collect light scattered from an interface of the platen and the purported skin site at an angle less than a platen-skin site critical angle, wherein the platen-skin site critical angle is defined by an interface of the platen and the purported skin site; and a controller interfaced with the illumination source and the light detector, the controller including; instructions to illuminate the purported skin site under a plurality of distinct optical conditions during a single illumination session, at least one of the plurality of distinct optical conditions including illuminating the purported skin site with light at an angle greater than a platen-skin site critical angle defined by an interface of the platen with an external environment and another of the distinct optical conditions including illuminating the purported skin site with light at an angle less than the platen-skin site critical angle; and instructions to derive a multispectral image of the purported skin site from light received by the light detector after scattering from the purported skin site for each of multiple of the plurality of distinct optical conditions. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25)
