First Claim
1. For a security system which includes a first subsystem for managing monitoring of a premises and a second subsystem for displaying information, collected by said first subsystem while managing monitoring of said premises, said second subsystem remotely located relative to said first subsystem, an interface for coupling said first subsystem and said second subsystem, said interface comprising:
- means for storing non-potential alarm specific information related to said premises monitored by said first subsystem, said non-potential alarm specific information useful in determining how to respond to potential alarm condition data;
means for receiving potential alarm condition data from said first subsystem, said potential alarm condition data related to a first alarm event detected by said first subsystem;
means for relaying said potential alarm condition data to said second subsystem, said potential alarm condition data received from said first subsystem and relayed to said second subsystem comprised of an alarm notification and a real-time stream of video and/or audio data;
means for transmitting said stored non-potential alarm specific information to said second subsystem;
means for receiving pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data from said first subsystem;
means for storing said pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data from said first subsystem; and
means for permitting, if said interface receives said alarm notification, said second subsystem to access said stored pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data for a pre-determined period of time after receipt of said alarm notification.

Abstract
A method for remote monitoring of a premises. A geographically remote client is operatively coupled to a security system server capable of authenticating a user of the remote client. The remote client is then operably coupled to a security gateway capable of managing the monitoring of the premises, activating a signal at the premises for notifying an occupant at the premises that remote monitoring is occurring, and transferring information between the security gateway and the remote client. The transfer of information between the security gateway and the remote client is controlled by the user of the remote client. The security gateway may be operably coupled to at least one camera at the premises and to at least one audio station at the premises.

13. For a security system which includes a security gateway for monitoring a premises and a monitoring client for displaying information collected by said security gateway, said monitoring client remotely located relative to said security gateway, a security system server remotely located relative to said security gateway and to said monitoring client and coupled to said security gateway and said monitoring client over a network, said security system server comprising:
-
an automation system server, said automation system server using potential alarm condition data received from said security gateway to produce a log of said alarm events detected by said security gateway; and a media handler, said media handler (1) storing pre-alarm video and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data received from said security gateway, (2) receiving an alarm notification and a real-time stream of alarm video and/or audio data from said security gateway, (3) relaying said real-time stream of alarm video and/or audio data to said monitoring client and (4) upon receipt of said alarm notification, permitting said monitoring client to access said stored pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data for a pre-determined period of time after relaying said real-time stream of alarm video and/or audio data to said monitoring client. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17)

-
means for receiving potential alarm condition data from said first subsystem, said potential alarm condition data related to a first alarm event detected by said first subsystem; means for relaying said potential alarm condition data to said second subsystem, said potential alarm condition data received from said first subsystem and relayed to said second subsystem comprised of an alarm notification and a real-time stream of video and/or audio data; means for receiving pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data received from said first subsystem; means for storing said pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data from said first subsystem; and means for permitting said second subsystem to access said stored pre-alarm and/or non-alarm video and/or audio data for a pre-determined period of time. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
