1. A system for identifying individual square bales of hay by applying an identification tag to a bale as it is baled with a baler, comprising:
- a. means, connected to the baler, for applying the identification tag to a bale;
b. a timing star wheel, connected to the baler, for measuring the position of the bale on the baler, the timming star wheel having at least one spoke for delivering the tag to the bale;
c. a memory; and
d. a processor for receiving information from the timing star wheel and for outputting a signal to the means for applying the identification tag to;
(i) apply the identification tag to the bale, and (ii) associate information about the bale to the memory.

7. A system for identifying individual square bales of hay by applying identification tags to square bale as they are baled with a square baler, comprising:
-
an tag dispenser adapted to hold and dispense a tag; a processor communicatively connected to the tag dispenser; a rotatable timing and tagging star wheel communicatively connected to the tag dispenser and to the processor, the star wheel including a center area and a plurality of spokes extending outwardly from the center area for contact with bales, each of the spokes having a hollow tag delivery path extending from the center area to the outward contact end thereof; whereby the star wheel rotates and generates a signal related to a bale on the baler, sends the signal to the processor, the processor sends a signal to the tag dispenser to release a tag to a delivery path of a spoke of the star wheel, and the tag travels down the delivery path during star wheel rotation and is inserted into an opening in the bale of hay made by the spoke contact end.
