  • adhering an imager die on a substrate, the imager die including a plurality of pixels;

    adhering bottom surfaces of a plurality of optically transparent optical spacers directly to respective portions of the imager die above the plurality of pixels;

    depositing a damming material on the substrate substantially around the imager die so as to form a fill region, wherein the damming material has a viscosity;

    depositing a fill material on the substrate in the fill region, the fill material covering the imager die and a portion of the optically transparent optical spacers not including top surfaces of the optically transparent optical spacers, wherein the fill material has a viscosity lower than the viscosity of the damming material;

    whereby light passes through the optical spacer top surfaces and the optical spacer bottom surfaces to reach the plurality of pixels.
