1. A method for detecting an agent in a sample comprising the steps of:

  • (a) illuminating a sample with photons emanating from a device to thereby produce Raman-scattered photons from the sample;

    (b) passing the Raman-scattered photons through a fiber array spectral translator;

    (c) forming a spatially-accurate wavelength resolved image of at least a portion of the sample using the Raman-scattered photons; and

    (d) analyzing the spatially-accurate wavelength resolved image using the device to detect patterns characteristic of the agent.
