Tracking system for individual detection of prescription orders contained within a bulk container
First Claim
1. A prescription order container tracking system for individual detection of each prescription order contained within a bulk container of prescription orders, each prescription order within the bulk container having a tag operably secured thereto defining a plurality of tags therein, with each tag having a unique identifier thereon, said tracking system having:
- a computer system having a display;
a tag reader positioned near a first station and in communication with said computer system, said tag reader configured to automatically detect the presence of each tag of said plurality of tags when said plurality of tags are presented, in bulk, to said tag reader;
wherein said unique identifier associated with each said tag is computer readable, and said computer system correlates individual customer information associated with each said prescription order and thereby detects the location of each said prescription order in the bulk container; and
,wherein said computer system has a manifest of all the prescription orders that are presumably contained within the bulk container, and said computer system compares the detected prescription orders with the manifest and activates a transducer if there is a discrepancy between the manifest and the detected prescription orders.

Abstract
A pharmacy prescription order identification system is disclosed that permits individual detection and tracking of prescription orders even when they are all contained within a bulk container. Each prescription order in the bulk container has a uniquely identified tag. The tag is uniquely coded such that a tag reader can substantially simultaneously read a plurality of tags, thereby facilitating bulk processing and tracking of prescription orders. In a preferred embodiment the computer system compares the detected prescription orders in a bulk shipment with a provided manifest and alerts a worker of any discrepancies found. The tag reader is preferably a hand-held wand.
