- one or more signal splitters capable of splitting at least one signal received from a base station transceiver into two or more paths and directing at least one split signal toward a control channel monitoring module and at least one split signal toward an antenna; and
one or more control channel monitoring circuits, comprising;
a first filter capable of filtering the split signal,a signal mixer capable of combining the split signal with a conversion signal to produce a second signal,a second filter capable of filtering the second signal, anda receiver capable of receiving the second signal from the second filter and further capable of transmitting the signal to a synchronization processing system, the synchronization processing system capable of synchronizing the apparatus with the base station transceiver.

Abstract
A method of obtaining information for use in a smart antenna system is provided. The method includes monitoring an interface between a base station controller and a base station transceiver to receive signaling information being communicated via the interface. The method further includes extracting from the signaling information a subset of the signaling information operable to be used as input for selecting one or more of a plurality of beams for wireless communications.
