1. A method for controlling operation of an electronically commutated motor (ECM), said method comprising:

  • providing a pulse width modulated signal to an ECM controller; and

adjusting a duty cycle of the pulse width modulated signal to cause the ECM controller to regulate a maximum current drawn by the ECM and an average voltage applied to the ECM, switching between the regulation of the maximum current and the regulation of the average voltage by selecting a first duty cycle to cause the ECM controller to regulate the maximum current drawn by the ECM and a second duty cycle to cause the ECM controller to regulate the average voltage applied to the ECM.
