1. A disinfecting device having a vacuum cleaning assembly for vacuuming a cleaning medium and a UV light assembly for disinfecting a cleaning medium of infestation agents, the device comprising:

  • a lower housing contacting the cleaning medium and an upper housing pivotally connected to the lower housing;

    a vacuum assembly for vacuuming the cleaning medium, wherein the cleaning medium is a carpet medium having a plurality of carpet fibers;

    a bulb assembly disposed within the lower housing, the bulb assembly defining a bulb chamber, the bulb chamber having a UV bulb positioned to radiate UV light directly onto the cleaning medium; and

    at least one protruding member operable to contact the carpet fibers and to push the fibers apart to create a space between the fibers, the UV bulb and at least one protruding member positioned relative to one another such that UV light from the UV bulb is radiated directly into the space created between the fibers and onto areas of the fibers that would not otherwise receive direct radiation, the direct radiation of UV light killing infestation agents located in the space created between the fibers.
