In a computer system comprising a plurality of resources, a monitor for monitoring the plurality of resources, a first computer comprising at least one of the plurality of resources, and a second computer connected to the first computer by at least one communication medium, a method, performed by an administrator, comprising:
- (A) configuring a resource group that comprises the at least one of the plurality of resources via the second computer, without the administrator logging into the first computer;
wherein the resource group specifies a group of resources to be monitored by the monitor and at least one action to be taken by the monitor upon a determination that at least one of the group of resources has failed or is functioning improperly; and
wherein the second computer comprises a second agent, the first computer comprises a first agent, and the configuring comprises communicating, through the second agent, with the first agent to configure the resource group.

Abstract
A system and method for managing resource groups in a computer system having automatic availability capability is shown. In one embodiment, a method is provided which may be performed in a computer system comprising a plurality of resources, a monitor for monitoring the plurality of resources, a first computer comprising at least one of the plurality of resources, and a second computer connected to the first computer by at least one communication medium. The method, performed by an administrator, comprises configuring a resource group that comprises the at least one of the plurality of resources via the second computer, without the administrator logging into the first computer.
