Security markers for marking a person or property
First Claim
1. A method of identifying a source of a marking fluid applied to a person or an object, the method comprising:
- applying a marking fluid comprising one or more security markers to a person or an object,illuminating the applied marking fluid to excite the one or more security markers;
detecting photoluminescent emission from the one or more security markers in response to the excitation;
generating a photoluminescent signature based on a plurality of aspects of the detected photoluminescent emission, wherein the plurality ot aspects of the detected photoluminescent emission compnse a rate of change of emission versus time and a rate of change of emission versus wavelength;
comparing the generated photoluminescent signature with one or more pre-defined photoluminescent signatures associated with the source of the marking fluid; and
identifying the source of the marking fluid based on a match between the generated photoluminescent signature and at least one of the one or more pre-defined photoluminescent signatures.

Abstract
A method of identifying a source of a marking fluid applied to a person or an object comprises applying a marking fluid including one or more security markers to a person or an object and illuminating the applied marking fluid to excite the security markers. Photoluminescent emission from the security markers in response to the excitation is measured and compared with one or more pre-defined photoluminescent signatures associated with the source of the marking fluid. The source of the marking fluid is identified based on a match between the detected photoluminescent emission and at least one of the pre-defined photoluminescent signatures.

5. A device for securely marking a person or property, the device comprising:
-
a fluid chamber which holds marking fluid to be applied to a person or property; marking fluid in which one or more security markers are suspended, where the marking fluid is difficult to remove when applied to a person or property, and where a photoluminescent signature based on a plurality of aspects of photoluminescent emission from the one or more security markers identifies origin of the marking fluid; and an activation mechanism which, when activated, discharges the marking fluid towards the person or property, wherein the plurality of aspects of photoluminescent emission comprise a rate of change of emission versus time and a rate of change of emission versus wavelength. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)
