1. A method for monitoring a server, the method comprising:

  • requesting traceable information from the server by providing a schema to the server as part of a discovery process, wherein the schema is a hierarchical framework for traceable information and includes elements corresponding to traceable events and associated traceable columns and wherein a first portion of the events and columns relate to server performance and a second portion of the events and columns are not related to server performance;

    in response to the provided schema, receiving traceable information from the server, wherein the traceable information indicates information unique to the server capable of being traced;

    selecting information to be traced from the traceable information; and

    requesting a trace of the selected informationdisplaying a trace of the selected information wherein the first portion is displayed and the second portion is not displayed.
