A nonwoven acoustic insulating material having liquid repellency properties, the acoustic insulating material comprising a) a sound generation area-facing nonwoven web layer comprising a nonwoven web having a topical treatment of a fluorochemical that imparts water and low-surface-tension fluid repellency to the Sound generation area-facing nonwoven web layer, and b) a sound receiving area-facing nonwoven web layer comprising a high-loft multicomponent fiber nonwoven web layer;

  • and said acoustic insulating material exhibits a sound absorption coefficient of greater than about 0.8 at a sound frequency of higher than 2500 Hz.
