1. A device for managing a network having a plurality of network elements, comprising:

  • a memory configured to store instructions; and

    a processor configured to execute the instructions to associate each network element with one of a plurality of logical planes and provide a network map, the network map displaying relationships between the plurality of logical planes and those network elements associated with the plurality of logical planes;

    wherein the displaying includes;

    highlighting certain of said plurality of network elements affected by selecting a particular network element associated with a particular said one of said plurality of logical planes, said certain network elements being associated with planes other than said particular plane,highlighting similarly affected links on said planes other than said particular plane, and highlighting similarly affected links between said plurality of logical planes.
