Method and system for user registration using sensor with identifier
First Claim
1. A method for enabling registration of a user to use a computer system, said method comprising the steps of:
- providing a printed registration form containing information relating to user registration, the form including a plurality of tags, each tag containing coded data indicative of an identity of the form and of a position of the tag on the form,positioning a nib of an optically imaging pen in an operative position relative to the form;
sensing at least some of the coded data contained in a tag;
computing a position of the nib from an observed perspective distortion on an imaged tag and a known geometry of pen optics;
generating indicating data using at least some of the sensed coded data, said indicating data comprising data regarding the identity of the form and data regarding a position of the nib relative to the form;
sending, to a processing system associated with the computer system, the indicating data and a pen identifier,thereby enabling the processing system to identify, using the pen identifier and the indicating data, at least one parameter relating to user registration, and store the at least one parameter so as to be accessible by said computer system,wherein the pen electronically stores the pen identifier in a read-only memory in the pen, the pen identifier distinguishing the pen from other pens of the same type.

Abstract
A method and system for enabling registration of a user to use a computer system. The method includes providing a printed registration form containing information relating to user registration, the form including coded data indicative of an identity of the form and of at least one reference point of the form. Indicating data is received, in a processing system associated with the computer system, from a sensing device regarding the identity of the form and a position of the sensing device relative to the form. The sensing device, when placed in an operative position relative to the form, generates the indicating data using at least some of the coded data on the form. The method further includes identifying, in the processing system and from the indicating data, at least one parameter relating to user registration, and storing the at least one parameter so as to be accessible by said computer system.
