1. An apparatus for light activated drug therapy of a target site of a subject, comprising:
- a patch adapted to be placed over the tissue at or overlying the target site to be treated, the patch comprising a photosensitizing agent; and
a plurality of diodes physically coupled to and carried by the patch such that light outputted by the plurality of diodes is emitted from the patch towards the target site when at least one of the diodes is energized and the patch lies closely against the tissue at or overlying the target site so as to deliver at least a portion of the photosensitizing agent to the target site.

Abstract
The present invention is drawn to apparatus for transcutaneous photodynamic therapy (“PDT”) of a target tissue or compositions in a mammalian subject, which includes a light source that is external to the subject and is selected from among one or a plurality of laser diodes; light emitting diodes; electroluminescent light source; incandescent light sources; cold cathode fluorescent light sources; organic polymer light sources; or inorganic light sources, where the light source is adapted to direct the light in a direction lengthwise and parallel to a vessel wall comprising the lesion.

11. An apparatus for light activated drug therapy of a target site of a subject, the apparatus comprising:
-
an external patch adapted to be placed against the subject, the patch comprising a photosensitizing agent deliverable to the target site when the patch physically contacts the subject; and at least one light source carried by the patch, the at least one light source capable of receiving electrical energy and generating light using the electrical energy such that the light activates the photosensitizing agent at the target site. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

18. A patch for therapy of a target site of a subject, comprising:
-
a photosensitizing agent deliverable from the patch to the target site when the patch contacts or overlays the target site of the subject; and an array of light sources capable of receiving electrical energy and generating light using the electrical energy, the array of light sources positioned with respect to the photosensitizing agent such that light generated by the array of light sources is delivered out of the patch so as to activate a portion of the photosensitizing agent that has been delivered to the target site. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25)
