- a plurality of sensors for detecting when an infrastructure interface is physically coupled to network infrastructure; and
infrastructure connection detection circuitry coupled to said sensors, said infrastructure connection detection circuitry providing a power management control signal as a function of a signal from each sensor, said power management control signal being provided to a processor to request the processor to adjust operation of network interface circuitry;
wherein at least one sensor comprises a sensor selected from a group consisting of an optical detection device, a magnetic flux detection device, and a Hall effect device.

determining if an infrastructure interface is physically coupled to network infrastructure as a function of a sensor signal from at least two of a plurality of sensors, each sensor signal indicative of when an infrastructure interface is physically coupled to network infrastructure; and providing a power management control signal to a processor to request the processor to alter a powered state of network interface circuitry when a condition of said infrastructure interface with respect to being physically coupled to said network infrastructure is determined to have changed; wherein each sensor signal is from a sensor selected from a group consisting of an optical detection device, a magnetic flux detection device, and a Hall effect device. - View Dependent Claims (27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34)
