1. An implantable system, comprising:

  • a housing configured for subcutaneous, non-intrathoracic placement in a patient, the housing comprising a plurality of electrically conductive regions respectively defining a plurality of electrodes, wherein all electrodes of the implantable system are defined by the plurality of electrically conductive regions of the housing and the plurality of electrically conductive regions comprise four electrically conductive and isolated sidewalls of the housing;

    detection circuitry provided in the housing and coupled to at least some of the plurality of electrodes, the detection circuitry configured to detect cardiac activity necessitating a cardiac stimulation therapy; and

    energy delivery circuitry provided in the housing and coupled to at least some of the plurality of electrodes, the energy delivery circuitry configured to deliver the cardiac stimulation therapy.
