Multiple pass cargo inspection system
First Claim
1. A multiple pass inspection system for inspecting cargo, wherein said inspection system comprises:
- a movable gantry having a first side and a second side, wherein said first and second sides are separated by a space for receiving said cargo;
a radiation source rotatably attached to said first side, wherein said radiation source is movable in a vertical direction on the first side of said gantry and wherein, upon movement in a vertical direction, rotates in a range of 0 to 90 degrees; and
a detector array, wherein said detector array pivots around an axis to remain in continual alignment with said radiation source upon the vertical movement and rotation of said radiation source.

Abstract
The present invention is a cargo inspection system, employing a radiation source, capable of scanning vehicles and/or cargo in a wide range of sizes, including conventional imaging areas as well as taller and bulkier enclosures at sufficiently optimal efficacy and overall throughput. In one embodiment, the present invention is a multiple pass inspection method for inspecting vehicles and their cargo, comprising a first pass scan, wherein said first pass scan includes moving a radiation source at a suitable scanning distance, rotating a radiation source at a suitable scanning angle, and moving said radiation source along an object under inspection.

7. A method of inspecting cargo, comprising the steps of:
-
emitting radiation from a radiation source wherein said radiation source is rotatably attached to a first side of a movable gantry and wherein said radiation source is at a first vertical position on said first side of the movable gantry; receiving said radiation at a detector array after said radiation passes through the cargo, wherein said detector array is rotatably attached to a second of a movable gantry and wherein said detector array is in alignment with said radiation source in said first vertical position; moving said radiation source to a second vertical position on said first side of the movable gantry and rotating said radiation source between 0 and 90 degrees; and rotating said detector array around a pivot point to maintain alignment with said radiation source in the second vertical position. - View Dependent Claims (8)
