Abstract

In accordance with one or more embodiments, a system determines an image, selects a panel of participants, and outputs the image to each of the participants of the panel of participants. The image may be an image of a garment a shopper is considering purchasing, an image of the shopper wearing the garment, or an image of a virtual model of the shopper combined with an image of the garment. The panel of participants may be selected based on a characteristic associated with the shopper. The image may be output to the panel of participants along with a request for an opinion regarding the garment (e.g., “Buy It” or “Don'"'"'t Buy It”). The responses may be collected from the participants and an indication of the results may be output to the shopper.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, via a merchant server from a shopper, a request for opinions regarding a garment and a minimum number of responses that are to be collected from a plurality of peers before providing an indication of the opinions;

determining an image of the garment;

selecting, by the merchant server for the shopper, the plurality of peers to provide the opinion, the peers being selected based on a characteristic associated with the shopper and on demographic information provided by the peers;

outputting, by the merchant server, to each of the plurality of peers the request for the opinion and the image of the garment;

receiving, by the merchant server, responses to the request from at least a subset of the plurality of peers;

determining, by the merchant server, that the minimum number of responses have been received;

processing, by the merchant server, the received responses into categories; and

outputting, by the merchant server to the shopper, an indication of the categories and a percentage associated with each category that corresponds to the opinions of the peers regarding the garment.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the outputting of the indication, by the merchant server, is performed within such a short period of time from a time at which the request is received from the shopper that it allows the shopper to make a decision regarding the desirability of the garment based on the indication of the opinions while a shopper is conducting a shopping session during which the shopper submitted the request for opinions.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein determining an image of the garment comprises:

receiving, from the shopper, an image of the garment.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining an image of the garment comprises:

receiving, from the shopper, an identifier associated with the garment; and

retrieving, from a memory, an image of the garment based on the identifier.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the characteristic associated with the shopper comprises a characteristic possessed by the shopper.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the characteristic associated with the shopper comprises a characteristic the shopper desires at least one peer to possess.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the characteristic specified by the shopper comprises a characteristic the shopper desires at least one participant to possess.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the characteristic specified by the shopper comprises a characteristic of the shopper.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the image comprises an image of the shopper wearing the garment.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the image comprises an image of a virtual model of the shopper merged with an image of the garment.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein an identity of the shopper is not revealed to the participants.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the request for an opinion comprises a query as to whether the shopper should purchase the garment.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the shopper specifies a minimum number of participants to whom the image is to be output.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein each response comprises one of a positive response and a negative response.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein at least one response further comprises an indication of why the at least one response comprises one of a positive and a negative response.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

providing, by the merchant server to the shopper, the indication of why the at least one response comprises one of a positive response and a negative response.

17. The method of claim 1, in which determining the image comprises receiving the image via cellular telephone.

18. The method of claim 1, in which receiving the request from the shopper further comprises receiving additional information from the shopper.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the additional information comprises an indication of at least one of the designer of the garment, the price of the garment, the materials of the garment, and additional images of the garment.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the additional information comprises an indication of an occasion to which the garment is to be worn.

21. The method of claim 1, in which outputting an indication, by the merchant server to the shopper, further comprises providing open- ended text from at least one peer.

22. The method of claim 1, in which outputting an indication, by the merchant server to the shopper, further comprises providing detailed information about the received responses to the shopper.

23. The method of claim 1, in which outputting an indication, by the merchant server to the shopper, comprises providing at least one of an alphanumeric indication, a pie chart, or a bar chart.

24. The method of claim 1, in which outputting an indication, by the merchant server to the shopper, comprises providing data for display by a mobile device.

25. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing, by the merchant server, the shopper with feedback based on the received responses.

26. The method of claim 25, in which the feedback comprises comments provided by the peers.

27. The method of claim 25, in which the feedback comprises at least one of a discount to buy the garment, a link to alternative garments, or a suggestion for an accessory.

28. A computer readable medium storing instructions configured to direct a processor to:

receive a request for opinions regarding a garment from a shopper and a minimum number of responses that are to be collected from a plurality of peers before providing an indication of the opinions;

determine an image of the garment;

select, for the shopper, the plurality of peers to provide the opinion, the peers being selected based on a characteristic associated with the shopper and on demographic information provided by the peers;

output to each of the plurality of peers the request for the opinion and the image of the garment;

receive responses to the request from at least a subset of the plurality of peers;

determine that the minimum number of responses have been received;

process the received responses into categories; and

output an indication, to the shopper, of the categories and a percentage associated with each category that corresponds to the opinions of the peers regarding the garment.

29. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for outputting the indication to the shopper comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to provide the output within a short period of time from a time at which the request is received from the shopper to permit the shopper to make a decision regarding the desirability of the garment based on the indication while the shopper is conducting a shopping session.

30. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for determining an image of the garment comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to receive the image of the garment from the shopper.

31. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for determining the image of the garment comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to process image data from a cellular telephone.

32. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for receiving the request from the shopper further comprises instructions configured to direct the processor to receive additional information from the shopper.

33. The computer readable medium of claim 32, in which the instructions for receiving the additional information comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to receive data concerning at least one of the designer of the garment, the price of the garment, the materials of the garment, and additional images of the garment.

34. The computer readable medium of claim 32, in which the instructions for receiving the additional information comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to receive data indicating an occasion to which the garment is to be worn.

35. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for determining an image of the garment comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to:

receive, from the shopper, an identifier associated with the garment; and

retrieve, from a memory, an image of the garment based on the identifier.

36. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for receiving the request for opinions further comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to receive a query as to whether the shopper should purchase the garment.

37. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for outputting an indication to the shopper further comprises instructions configured to direct the processor to provide open-ended text from at least one peer.

38. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for outputting an indication to the shopper further comprises instructions configured to direct the processor to provide detailed information about then received responses to the shopper.

39. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for outputting an indication to the shopper further comprises instructions configured to direct the processor to provide at least one of alphanumeric indication data, pie chart data, or bar chart data.

40. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for outputting an indication to the shopper further comprises instructions configured to direct the processor to provide data for use by a mobile device.

41. The computer readable medium of claim 28, in which the instructions for determining an image of the garment comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to receive the image of the garment from the shopper.

42. The computer readable medium of claim 28, further comprising instructions configured to direct the processor to provide feedback data based on the received responses.

43. The computer readable medium of claim 42, in which the instructions for providing the shopper with feedback data comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to provide at least one link to comments of the peers.

44. The computer readable medium of claim 42, in which the instructions for providing the shopper with feedback data comprise instructions configured to direct the processor to provide a link to at least one of a discount to buy the garment, alternative garments, or a suggestion for an accessory.

45. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor; and

a storage device operatively coupled to the processor, wherein the storage device stores instructions configured to direct the processor to;

receive a request for opinions regarding a garment from a shopper and a minimum number of responses that are to be collected from a plurality of peers before providing an indication of the opinions;

determine an image of the garment;

select, for the shopper, the plurality of peers to provide the opinion, the peers being selected based on a characteristic associated with the shopper and on demographic information provided by the peers;

output to each of the plurality of peers the request for the opinion and the image of the garment;

receive responses to the request from at least a subset of the plurality of peers;

determine that the minimum number of responses have been received;

process the received responses into categories; and

output an indication, to the shopper, of the categories and a percentage associated with each category that corresponds to the opinions of the peers regarding the garment.
