1. A computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause a processor that is a functional component of a computing device to execute a method of facilitating user interaction, the method comprising:
- causing the processor to provide, on an output device that is another functional component of the computer, a user interface that includes a data display component having an element of content automatically selected based on perceived contextual relevancy determined based on a people-to-people association made as the result of a record of a plurality of instances of a first user removing content from documents authored by a second user, wherein each of the plurality of instances of removing content is a cut portion of a cut-and-paste operation;
wherein the people-to-people association links the first user to the second user; and
wherein said element of content is provided, on the output device, proximate to but not within a simultaneously displayed document being edited by the first user, and wherein said element of content is indicative of a third document, the third document being created by the second user, and wherein the third document is not a document from which the first user removed content.

Abstract
A graphical user interface is disclosed. The interface includes an active document that has been created or opened by a user. The interface also includes a plurality of data display components that are displayed simultaneously with the active document. A user illustratively utilizes tools associated with an application to create an edit content within the document. The display components each contain an indication of data that is automatically selected based on a calculated assumption of contextual relevance to the user that is working with the active document. The individual items within each display component may be selected and listed in a ranked order based on an automatically computed determination of what is most likely to be of interest to the user. The content of the data display components may be automatically selected based on people-to-document, people-to-people and/or document-to-document associations. Such associations may be determined based on a process of removing content from one document and pasting it in to another document.

2. A computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause a processor that is a functional component of a computing device to provide a graphical user interface, the graphical user interface comprising:

an active document rendered by the processor on an output device that is a functional component of the computing device, wherein the active document is a word processing document created or opened by a user, and wherein the active document is opened within a word processing application that includes tools that enable the user to create and edit the content of the document; a plurality of data display components that are simultaneously displayed, on the output device, with the active document, wherein the display components each contain an indication of data that is automatically selected based on a calculated assumption of contextual relevance to the user that created or opened the active document, and wherein individual items displayed within each display component are listed in a ranked order based on an automatically computed determination of what is most likely to be of interest to the user; and wherein at least one of the data display components is automatically selected, by the processor, based on a particular calculated assumption that links the user that created or opened the active document to a different user, and wherein the particular calculated assumption is determined, by the processor, based on a record of a cut-and-paste operation involving removed of content from a first data source and pasting it into a second data source. - View Dependent Claims (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A graphical user interface system, comprising:

a record of a people-to-people association that associates a first user with a second user, wherein the record is indicative of the first user removing content from a plurality of different documents authored by the second user, each of the plurality of instances of removing content being a cut portion of a cut-and-paste operation; a computer processor that is a functional component of a computing device, wherein the computer processor executes computer readable instructions embedded on a computer-readable storage medium, and as part of said execution, automatically determines that a particular collection of data is likely to be of interest to the first user, the particular collection of data having a connection to the second user; wherein the computer processor, as part of said automatic determination, accounts for the record of the people-to-people association and selects the particular collection of data based on a programmed assumption that the first user will be interested in the particular collection of data because he has, indirectly through the cut-and-paste operations reflected in said record, indicated an interest in data that, like the particular collection of data, has a connection to the second user; and an output mechanism that is a functional component of the computing device, wherein the output mechanism displays a graphical user interface that includes an indication of the particular collection of data, wherein the indication of the particular collection of data is provided, on the graphical user interface, proximate to but not within or part of a simultaneously displayed document that is in the process of being edited by the first user.
