1. A remote sensing unit, comprising:
- a plurality of sensors that are configured to collect sensed data;
a storage unit that is configured to at least temporarily store the collected sensed data;
a processor that is configured to analyze the collected sensed data to determine if an incident has occurred; and
a communications unit that is configured to communicate with at least some of a plurality of additional remote sensing units in response to a determination that an incident has occurred,wherein the communications unit is configured to request and receive data from the plurality of additional remote sensing units in response to a determination that an incident has occurred, andwherein the communications unit is further configured to at least periodically broadcast identification and location information.

Abstract
Methods for responding to a potential incident are provided in which data about the potential incident is received from a first remote sensing unit. Additional remote sensing units are identified that may have additional data about the potential incident, and additional data about the potential incident is received from at least some of these additional remote sensing units. The totality of the received data is then analyzed, and at least one remote entity is automatically notified regarding the occurrence of the potential incident.

7. A system for automatically responding to an incident, the system comprising:
-
a main processor; a main storage unit; and a communication unit, wherein the communication unit is configured to receive data about the incident from a plurality of remote sensing units, wherein the main processor is configured to make a determination as to whether one of a plurality of incidents is likely to have occurred based on data collected from at least some of the plurality of remote sensing units and stored standards stored in the main storage unit, wherein the main processor is further configured to automatically notify at least one remote entity via the communication unit upon making a determination that one of the plurality of incidents is likely to have occurred, wherein the system further includes stored pre-defined instructions that specify the types of remote entities that are to be automatically notified for at least some of the plurality of incidents, and wherein at least some of the remote sensing units include an input that allows an individual to instruct the remote sensing unit to forward data to the system. - View Dependent Claims (8)

9. A method for responding to an incident, the method comprising:
-
collecting data relating to the incident via a plurality of sensors; determining that the incident occurred based at least in part on an analysis of the collected data; identifying a plurality of remote sensing units that may have additional data about the incident; and communicating with at least some of the identified plurality of remote sensing units. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

18. A method for responding to an incident, the method comprising:
-
receiving data about the incident from a first remote sensing unit; performing an initial analysis on the received data at the first remote sensing unit; identifying a second remote sensing unit that is in the vicinity of a location where the incident occurred; activating the second remote sensing unit based on the initial analysis; receiving data about the incident from the second remote sensing unit; analyzing the received data from the first and second remote sensing units; automatically notifying at least one remote entity regarding the occurrence of the incident; identifying a subset of the received data from the first remote sensing unit that is to be forwarded to a system hub; and forwarding the identified subset of the received data from the first remote sensing unit to the system hub, wherein analyzing the received data from the first and second remote sensing units comprises comparing the received data from the first and second remote sensing units to pre-defined standards to determine if the incident occurred. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25)
