1. A method of operating a data protocol telephone that is used in a call for exchanging voice information between a first party human user of an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) protocol telephone of an automatic contact distributor (ACD) and a second human party to the call, the ACD coupled to the ISDN protocol telephone through a controller of the data protocol telephone and at least partially through the Internet, such method comprising:

  • translating a set of control instructions exchanged over a first path between the controller of the data protocol telephone and the ISDN protocol telephone, where said exchanged control instructions are translated between an Internet packet format readable by the controller and a set of time division multiplex repeating frame protocols readable by the ISDN protocol telephone; and

    transcoding the translated control instructions on the first path and voice information exchanged on a second path, where the second path is different than the first path, said translated control instructions and exchanged voice information being transcoded between a single time division multiplexed repeating frame of the ISDN protocol telephone and a packet format of the Internet.
