1. A method of selecting a number of channels out of a multiplicity of channels of an implantable cochlear stimulation system for stimulation during a stimulation frame, said method comprising:

  • obtaining a threshold corresponding to said stimulation frame;

    determining an amplitude corresponding to each channel within said multiplicity of channels;

    comparing said amplitude corresponding to each of said channels within said multiplicity of channels to said threshold; and

    selecting, by a speech processor included within the implantable cochlear stimulation system, each of said channels having amplitudes that exceed said threshold for stimulation during said stimulation frame;

    wherein if a total number of said selected channels is greater than a predetermined number, said method further comprises randomly de-selecting one or more of said selected channels until said total number of said selected channels is equal to said predetermined number.
