Method and apparatus for avoiding simultaneous service origination and paging in a group communication network
First Claim
1. A method for avoiding simultaneous service origination and paging in a mobile operating in a group communication network, the method comprising:
- receiving a floor-control request from a source communication device for initiating a group call;
initiating a service origination process from the source communication device;
transmitting a response to the floor-control request; and
delaying a response to the floor control request at a communications manager to avoid paging, wherein the paging is initiated at an infrastructure to re-establish a traffic channel with the source communications device.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for avoiding simultaneous service origination and paging in a mobile operating in a group communication network provides for receiving a floor-control request, e.g., in short data burst (SDB) form, from a source communication device for initiating a group call, initiating a service origination process for the source communication device, and transmitting a response to the floor-control request from a controller after the service origination process is complete. In one aspect, the method and apparatus provides for transmitting a response to the floor-control request from a wireless infrastructure after the service origination process is complete. In another aspect, the method and apparatus provides for initiating the service origination process for the source communication device after transmitting the response to the source communication device.

8. An apparatus for avoiding simultaneous service origination and paging in a mobile operating in a group communication network, comprising:
-
means for receiving a floor-control request from a source communication device for initiating a group call; means for initiating a service origination process from the source communication device; means for transmitting a response to the floor-control request; and means for delaying a response to the floor control request at a communications manager to avoid paging, wherein the paging is initiated at an infrastructure to re-establish a traffic channel with the source communications device. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18)

15. An apparatus for avoiding simultaneous service origination and paging in a mobile operating in a group communication network, comprising:
-
a receiver capable to receive a floor-control request for initiating a group call and a service origination process from a source communication device; a transmitter capable to transmit a response to the floor-control request; and a processor communicatively coupled to the receiver and the transmitter, the processor being capable to avoid simultaneous service origination and paging in a group communication network, wherein the processor is configured to not respond immediately to the floor-control request. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 19, 20, 21)

22. A method for avoiding simultaneous service origination and paging in a mobile operating in a group communication network, the method comprising:
-
receiving a floor-control request from a source communication device for initiating a group call; initiating a service origination process from the source communication device; transmitting a response to the floor-control request; delaying a response to the floor control request at a communications manager to avoid paging, wherein the paging is initiated at an infrastructure to re-establish a traffic channel with the source communications device; and not issuing a service origination request until after a talker mobile station has received a response to the floor-control request. - View Dependent Claims (23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30)
